Los Angeles Lakers vs. Phoenix Suns ATS Preview 10/24/18

Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Lakers (0-3) head to Phoenix to play the Suns (1-2) in a game that will likely be up-tempo. The game is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. ET on Wednesday, October 24, 2018.

Los Angeles opened as a 2.5-point favorite, while the game’s Over/Under (O/U) has been set at 236.5 points.

Los Angeles Lakers at Phoenix Suns ATS Prediction

The Lakers are hoping for a better outcome after failing to cover as 1.5-point favorites in their 143-142 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in their last game. The combined points for the game (285) were well over the projected point total of 226.5. Getting to the free throw line was one of San Antonio’s biggest strengths. They made 38 trips to the line, while Los Angeles went 26 times. LeBron James had a solid performance for Los Angeles, putting up 32 points, 14 assists and eight rebounds.

The last time the Suns played, they got blown out by the Golden State Warriors, 123-103. They were unable to cover as 12.5-point underdogs. The combined points for the game (226) finished just under the projected point total of 227. Golden State’s 12.3 turnover percentage was their biggest strength over Phoenix, who had a rate of 18.3. Phoenix’s Deandre Ayton had 20 points, 14 rebounds and five assists in the contest.

There could be a fair amount of transition offense in this showdown that showcases two of the NBA’s more fast-paced teams. Phoenix ranks third in possessions per game (102.3) and Los Angeles is first (103.6) dating back to last season.

Since last season, the Lakers have had records of 35-50 straight up (SU) and 37-46-2 against the spread (ATS). Vegas has been fairly accurate when setting the O/U total of Los Angeles games since last season with 46 overs compared to 39 unders.

The Suns, meanwhile, are 22-63 SU and 41-42-2 ATS since last season. Over that same period, games featuring Phoenix have gone over the O/U total 57.6 percent of the time.

The Lakers won three out of four meetings against the Suns last season. In the last game, Los Angeles won 112-93. The Lakers made 23 of their 26 free throws (88.5 percent) and had a much better effective field goal percentage (0.536 vs. 0.426).
