Lucha Underground S1E10 Recap: Not Man, Machine

Photo from El Rey Network

Last week, Lucha Underground featured a match of Dario Cueto’s own creation: Aztec Warfare. The Aztec Warfare match featured 20 wrestlers, with a new competitor entering the match every 90 seconds. Participants would be eliminated via pinfall or submission, and the winner of that match would become the first Lucha Underground Champion. The competitor who outlasted everybody else to become the first-ever Lucha Underground Champion was none other than Prince Puma.

This recap is part of a series that is recapping the entirety of Lucha Underground. If you would like to catch up on previous recaps, click here for the recap of the last episode. Currently, Lucha Underground airs Wednesdays on El Rey Network, and is now available on iTunes.

Opening Segment
Dario Cueto is in his office with Fenix, and Cueto tells Fenix how impressive Fenix has been over the last few weeks. Fenix defeated Prince Puma and eight other competitors in a single match a few weeks ago, and last week he entered #1 in Aztec Warfare and lasted all the way until the end. Dario Cueto wants Fenix to destroy Prince Puma, and Fenix is reluctant at first since he only fights for himself, but Cueto gives him motivation, by making the match for the Lucha Underground Championship.

Aerostar vs. Argenis vs. Angélico vs. Cage – 4-way Elimination Match
All four of these competitors are debuting on Lucha Underground in this match, so it’s time for them to make a good first impression. Aerostar, Argenis, and Angélico all have a speed-based more Lucha Libre style (as well as their names beginning with the letter “A”), whereas Cage is all strength, which might give him the advantage in this match.

In very quick succession, Cage eliminates Argenis and Aerostar. Eliminated: Argenis & Aerostar

Angélico gets in some offense, but Cage hits a huge clothesline for the win. This win isn’t that surprising considering the fact that Cage’s debut was hyped up a couple episodes ago on Lucha Underground. Winner: Cage

In-ring Segment
Chavo Guerrero is in the ring, to issue an apology to Blue Demon Jr. Chavo Guerrero attacked Blue Demon Jr several weeks ago with a chair, causing him to miss in-ring action until all the way through this episode.

Guerrero ends up apologizing, but for not taking off Blue Demon Jr.’s mask, not for attacking him with the chair. Guerrero tries to get in a cheap shot at Blue Demon Jr., but it’s countered and Blue Demon Jr. gets revenge of his own, attacking Chavo Guerrero with a chair, just like Guerrero did to him.

King Cuerno vs. Drago
When King Cuerno, “The Hunter,” debuted, he lost to Drago, and these two have been in a feud ever since. Cuerno attacked Drago after one of his matches, and they have both participated in multi-man matches together over the last few weeks. However, this is only the third singles match between the two, and the record in the series so far is 1-1.

King Cuerno set up a table outside the ring, but it worked against him. Drago hit Cuerno with a splash from an 18-20 ft high perch, and both men are counted out to end the match. Result: Draw (count-out)

Prince Puma (c) vs. Fenix – Lucha Underground Championship
These two are arguably the two best high flyers in Lucha Underground, who both use a great deal of velocity and verticality in their move sets.

After a phenomenal match, Prince Puma hits the 630 splash on Fenix to win the match and retain his title. Winner and STILL Lucha Underground Champion: Prince Puma

After the match, Cage, who debuted earlier in the night, attacks Prince Puma and lays him out with a discus clothesline and two powerbombs to end this episode of Lucha Underground.
