Last week on Lucha Underground, two huge developments started. To kick off the show, Prince Puma did the unthinkable and joined the dark side by declaring Vampiro his master in his quest to take out Mil Muertes. To main event the show, Cage would win his Best of Five Series against Texano, and he would be awarded with a gauntlet containing some kind of supernatural powers. Tonight, we will see Sexy Star take on Mariposa, as well as Johnny Mundo defending the Lucha Underground Championship against The Mack.
Opening Segment
Catrina knows that Prince Puma has chosen Vampiro as his master. Mil Muertes wants to get revenge at Prince Puma for costing him his match against Jeremiah Crane last week, but Catrina tells him that in order to get to Puma, he needs to take out Vampiro.
Jeremiah Crane catches Catrina in the hallway, and says that now he beat the man she loves, he should be her new man. Catrina laughs this off, telling Crane that Mil Muertes is not the man she loves.
Mariposa vs. Sexy Star
The history between Sexy Star and Mariposa runs deep. Mariposa, along with her brother Marty “The Moth” Martinez, kidnapped Sexy Star and tormented her for an unknown amount of time. When Sexy would escape and return to the Temple, it would take a brutal “No Mas” match for her to overcome the torture she was put through at the hands of Mariposa.
Last week, Sexy Star demanded this match. For the past few weeks, an unknown person has been giving Sexy Star spiders in her locker, through fan mail, and so on. Because of her history with Mariposa, Sexy Star has no doubt in her mind that it was Mariposa who was playing these mind games. Mariposa denied these accusations a couple weeks ago, telling Sexy Star she would rather use butterflies (“mariposa” translates to “butterfly”).
After escaping the Indian Death Lock and dodging a moonsault, Sexy Star hits a double stomp from the top rope to pick up the win and put away the woman she believes has been tormenting her with spiders. Winner: Sexy Star
Mariposa is still lying in the ring after the match when Marty “The Moth” Martinez comes to her aide, or so we thought. Once Mariposa is on her feet, her brother grabs her by the throat and hits her with a vicious chokeslam.
Backstage Segment
The Rabbit Tribe (led by Paul London) approaches Mascarita Sagrada backstage, telling the mini luchador that he is the “white rabbit” that they followed to get to the Temple. Sagrada tells them that they are crazy, but the Tribe still worships him as their god.
The Rabbit Tribe vs. Drago, Pindar, & Vibora (w/Kobra Moon)
While The Rabbit Tribe is a very interesting team in its own right, but tonight, this match is all about the group led by Kobra Moon. A couple weeks ago, Kobra Moon would compete in a match against Drago, and after it concluded, Pindar and Vibora would make their first appearances in the Temple. After beating down Drago and his fellow Trios Champions, Kobra Moon would kidnap Drago and take him to her home. It seems like whatever happened there had a mental effect on Drago, since he doesn’t even question competing in this match.
Vibora (the 7-foot tall “luchasaurus”) lays out the Rabbit Tribe, but Kobra Moon orders Drago to tag into the match and pick up the win. After the match, Aerostar and Fenix rush the ring and take Drago away from the reptilian tribe, but it doesn’t seem like Drago is too aware of it. Winners: Drago, Pindar, & Vibora
Backstage Segment
Dario Cueto approaches the Mack backstage, who is scheduled for a match with Johnny Mundo later tonight. While The Mack (and the entirety of the Lucha Underground audience) thought the match would be for the Lucha Underground Championship, El Jefe decided it is going to be a warm-up. The winner of this warm-up match will decide the stipulation for the championship match.
Johnny Mundo vs. The Mack
Instead of the Lucha Underground Championship being at stake, this is essentially a buffer match. The Mack and Johnny Mundo have never faced each other one-on-one, and this could help both men feel each other out. The down side to this match is the loser will be at a disadvantage going into a championship match.
As expected, PJ Black and Jack Evans from the Worldwide Underground provide the distraction of the referee, giving Johnny Mundo a chance to hit The Mack with a low blow, stealing the victory. Mundo chooses the stipulation for their match: All Night Long. Winner: Johnny Mundo
When the ring clear, Mil Muertes makes his presence known by coming down to ringside, attacking Vampiro, and laying him out in the middle of the ring with a Flatliner.
