On the last episode of Season One’s Lucha Underground, we saw the debut of Mil Muertes, who defeated the legendary Blue Demon Jr. We also saw Chavo Guerrero turn on practically everybody, knocking out half the roster with a steel chair. Will we see new fighters tonight, will Chavo Guerrero explain his actions, and what’s next for Mil Muertes?
This recap is part of a series that is recapping the entirety of Lucha Underground. If you would like to catch up on previous recaps, click here for the recap of the last episode. Currently, Lucha Underground airs Wednesdays on El Rey Network.
In-ring Segment
We get an update on Blue Demon Jr., who is out with injury after getting attacked by Chavo Guerrero last week, but Vampiro lets us know that he is in stable condition.
Out comes the owner and promoter of Lucha Underground, Dario Cueto. Apperently people have been complaining that there isn’t enough “lucha” in Lucha Underground, so Cueto introduces a new luchador, El Mariachi Loco.
El Mariachi Loco vs. Mascarita Sagrada
The first thing that you would notice about Mascarita Sagrada is that is a very small wrestler, about the same size as WWE’s Hornswoggle or El Torito. El Mariachi Loco has the size advantage, but Mascarita Sagrada gets in quite a bit of offense.
As a musician, it’s funny to see that El Mariachi Loco’s pants have a bunch of bass clefs on them.
Mascarita Sagrada locks in a choke, and turns it into a roll-up for the win. Winner: Mascarita Sagrada
After the match, Chavo Guerrero interrupts Sagrada’s celebration and lays him out.
Backstage Segment
Vampiro is interviewing Chavo Guerrero, and asks him about his actions last week. Guerrero explains that he doesn’t like Blue Demon Jr., since he is riding on the success of his father. Dario Cueto asked for violence, and Chavo Guerrero gave him exactly what he asked for.
Chavo Guerrero runs into Konnan, who tells him that there are people coming after him, so he should watch out. Immediately after, Mil Muertes appears, along with Catrina, potentially setting up a later feud.
Ricky Mandel vs. Mil Muertes (w/Catrina)
Before the match starts, we get a little backstory on Mil Muertes. Back in 1985, there was an earthquake in Mexico City that killed his entire family, forcing him to survive on his own. On the brink of death is where Mil Muertes is comfortable, and where he thrives.
Mil Muertes is one of those competitors that has an overall simple move set. His moves aren’t flashy, but instead he has an intensity that makes up for it. It also helps that he is huge, and probably one of the biggest competitors in Lucha Underground.
Ricky Mandel gets in some good offense, but “The Man of 1,000 Deaths” hits the Flatliner for the victory. Winner: Mil Muertes
It’s announced that next week that Johnny Mundo (formerly Johnny Nitro and John Morrison in WWE) will face Big Ryck (formerly Ezekiel Jackson in WWE) in the main event.
Drago vs. Pentagon Jr. vs. Fenix
This match is a very intriguing main event, considering that all three of these competitors have not competed on Lucha Underground before. Matt Striker notes that we will see all three of these men more in the future.
Drago, Pentagon Jr. and Fenix are all making a great first impression, with plenty of amazing spots in this match. There are plenty of moves that, as mainly a WWE fan, I have not seen before. Fenix even leaps off of the highest point in The Temple onto Drago and Pentagon Jr.
Pentagon Jr. hits Drago with a package piledriver, then Fenix comes from behind to hit Pentagon Jr. with an inverted Frankensteiner for the win. Winner: Fenix
That is all for this episode of Lucha Underground. Look out for the recap of the next episode where Johnny Mundo takes on Big Ryck in the main event.
