Lucha Underground S2E15 Recap: No Mas

On last week’s episode of Lucha Underground, we saw a battle for the third Aztec medallion as well as the finals of the Trios Tournament.

Johnny Mundo took on longtime rival Cage in a steel cage match to determine who would earn the third Aztec medallion. Mundo had experience and Taya on his side, but Cage would not stay down. Cage would end up handcuffing Taya to the ropes, and using the weapons she brought in (a kendo stick and a steel chair) against her and Johnny Mundo to pick up the victory and the medallion.

Instead of creating a semifinals round, Dario Cueto decided to make last week’s Trios tournament round the finals in a fatal four-way elimination tag match. Along with facing three other teams, Son of Havoc and Ivelisse had an even bigger disadvantage when it turned out that Angélico had to be sent to the hospital. This would not end up in their favor, and the team of Rey Mysterio, Prince Puma, and Dragon Azteca Jr. would outlast the former champions and two other teams (Joey Ryan, Cortez Castro & Mr. Cisco and Fenix, PJ Black, & Jack Evans) to become the new Trios Champions.

Opening Segment
Catrina is Dario Cueto’s office regarding Mil Muertes’s Lucha Underground Championship match. Dario Cueto has confidence in his brother, Matanza Cueto, so he gives Muertes his opportunity next week. They will compete in “Graver Consequences.” In Season One, Mil Muertes faced Fenix in Grave Consequences, which ends when a competitor is put in a coffin. To make it “Graver Consequences,” there will be four coffins around the ring.

Before the matches start tonight, Matt Striker announces that they will all be for Aztec medallions. The seven medallion holders will have a chance at the Gift of the Gods Championship, which guarantees the champion a Lucha Underground Championship opportunity.

Marty “The Moth” Martinez vs. The Mack – Aztec Medallion Match
“The Moth” and The Mack have had some beef with each other over the past few weeks, which primarily revolves around the situation with Sexy Star. Dario Cueto thought that teaming these two up (along with Mariposa) for the Trios Tournament would be interesting, but it just ended up in their team losing.

The Mack hits two “Stone Cold” Stunners on Martinez to pick up the victory, and the fourth Aztec medallion. Winner: The Mack

Backstage Segment
Sexy Star is in Dario Cueto’s office, and Cueto suspects that something has happened to Sexy Star. Cueto relates to Sexy Star, revealing that he and his brother Matanza were “captives” of his evil mother. Cueto wants to give Sexy Star a chance to get revenge, so he schedules a “No Mas” match between Sexy Star and Mariposa tonight.

King Cuerno vs. Siniestro de la Muerte (w/Catrina)
Siniestro de la Muerte is one of the Disciples of Death, who has not found much success in tag team action. After the Disciples of Death lost a Trios match two weeks ago, Siniestro de la Muerte quite literally killed his fellow disciples. King Cuerno also needs this win, after seeing several losses since losing the Gift of the Gods Championship.

Catrina hits Cuerno from behind with the mysterious Aztec stone, and Siniestro de la Muerte takes advantage, hitting a springboard Fame Asser on Cuerno for the win, and the medallion. Winner: Siniestro de la Muerte

Backstage Segment
Famous B approaches Mascarita Sagrada, and tells him that he has set up a match against an Aztec medallion holder who is willing to defend it.

Mascarita Sagrada (w/Brenda & Famous B) vs. Cage – Aztec Medallion Match
Cage is perhaps the worst opponent for Mascarita Sagrada to face. Sagrada is the smallest luchador on the roster, but Cage is the strongest. Sagrada will have to use the speed advantage to have a chance at defeating “The Machine.”

Sagrada tries his best, but Cage is just too strong, and hits an emphatic F5 to win the match and retain the Aztec medallion. Winner: Cage

After the match, while Cage is checking on Sagrada, Chavo Guerrero comes to the ring and steals Cage’s medallion.

Sexy Star vs. Mariposa – Aztec Medallion Match (No Mas)
In order to win the “No Mas” match, you must beat your opponent so badly that they scream “No Mas” (“no more” in English). This is essentially the Spanish version of the “I Quit” match featured in WWE. This is a perfect match for Sexy Star, who does not have disqualifications to limit the amount of damage she can deal to Mariposa, and vice versa.

Sexy Star and Mariposa fight all the way to the scaffolding at the very top of the Temple. They make their way back down to the stands, and The Mack prevents Marty “The Moth” Martinez from interfering. Sexy Star gives the fight of her life, and locks in a vicious armbar on Mariposa, to which Mariposa yells “No Mas.” Winner: Sexy Star
