Lucha Underground S1E26 Recap: Daivari Debuts

Photo from El Rey Network

Last week’s episode of Lucha Underground featured three great matches, with one of them being for the Lucha Underground Championship. Fenix defeated Killshot in what would be a very impressive singles debut for Killshot (he originally debuted with The Mack as part of Big Ryck’s team in the Trios tournament). Hernandez defeated Cage and King Cuerno, because of a distraction by a fan who wants to compete in the temple, to become the #1 Contender to the Lucha Underground Championship.

The main event of last week’s episode would feature Prince Puma successfully defending his Lucha Underground Championship against Drago. Hernandez interfered in the match, and seemed go for Prince Puma with a tackle, Puma would move out of the way, and the new #1 Contender would end up hitting Drago. Because of this, Drago would take a loss, and would consequently be banned from The Temple forever.

This recap is part of a series that is recapping the entirety of Lucha Underground. If you would like to catch up on previous recaps, click here for the recap of the last episode. Currently, Lucha Underground airs Wednesdays on El Rey Network, and is now available on iTunes.

Opening Segment
Johnny Mundo and Alberto El Patron are in Dario Cueto’s office to convince him that one of them should be the #1 Contender to Prince Puma’s Lucha Underground Championship instead of Hernandez. Cueto meets them halfway by scheduling two matches. Tonight, Mundo and El Patron will face each other, and the winner of tonight’s match will face Hernandez next week in a #1 Contender’s match.

Cortez Castro & Mr. Cisco (w/Bael) vs. Son of Havoc & Angélico (w/Ivelisse)
Son of Havoc, Ivelisse, and Angélico won two consecutive matches in the Trios tournament to become the first-ever Lucha Underground Trios Champions. In the final match of the tournament, they would defeat The Crew, who hope to get some revenge tonight. Also during that match, Ivelisse suffered a leg injury.

Bael provides a distraction, leading to Mr. Cisco and Cortez Castro hitting a flapjack/Codebreaker double team on Son of Havoc to pick up the victory. Winners: Cortez Castro & Mr. Cisco

Backstage Segment
Dario Cueto is is his office with the man who attacked Texano several weeks back. In order for him to prove himself, Cueto puts him against Texano next.

Cueto goes to the locker room to talk to Hernandez and Prince Puma. Hernandez is angry at Puma for some reason, and Cueto puts them in a tag match together against Cage and King Cuerno later tonight.

Delavar Daivari vs. Texano
Right after Daivari gets in the ring, Texano runs to the ring and they start fighting immediately. During the brawl, Texano pushes the referee out of his way to lose by disqualification, ending the match, but not the feud. Winner (via disqualification): Delavar Daivari

King Cuerno & Cage vs. Prince Puma & Hernandez
Prince Puma and Hernandez have one thing in common: a friendship with Konnan. Konnan has been mentoring Prince Puma since he joined Lucha Underground, and Konnan was also responsible for bringing Hernandez to The Temple. Hernandez has been involved in every one of Prince Puma’s matches since debuting, and he is inexplicably angry with the Lucha Underground Champion.

During the match, Hernandez turns on his partner and powerbombs Prince Puma onto the apron. Cage takes advantage and puts Prince Puma away for the win. Winners: Cage & King Cuerno

Alberto El Patron vs. Johnny Mundo
Alberto El Patron is the AAA Mega Champion, so winning the Lucha Underground Championship would give him double the gold. Johnny Mundo has come close to winning the Lucha Underground Championship multiple times, and winning this match would put him one more step closer to the title. Either way, the winner of this match will have to face Hernandez before even thinking about the Lucha Underground Championship.

Alberto El Patron dodges a springboard cross body from Johnny Mundo and hits Mundo with a superkick to pick up the victory. Winner: Alberto El Patron
