In just two weeks (from this episode), Lucha Underground will host its biggest event yet: Ultima Lucha. Going into this week, the card for Ultima Lucha is already stacked. The Disciples of Death will challenge Son of Havoc, Ivelisse, and Angélico for the Trios Championship. Johnny Mundo will battle a vengeful Alberto El Patron. Drago looks to get some revenge on Hernandez. Vampiro will come out of retirement, and out from the commentary table, to face Pentagon Jr. The main event of the evening will feature Prince Puma defending his Lucha Underground Championship against Mil Muertes
Last week, we saw three winners of Aztec medallions: King Cuerno, Bengala, and Sexy Star. The meaning behind these medallions is unknown, and perhaps we will find out more this week.
This recap is part of a series that is recapping the entirety of Lucha Underground. If you would like to catch up on previous recaps, click here for the recap of the last episode. Currently, Lucha Underground airs Wednesdays on El Rey Network, and is now available on iTunes.
Opening Segment
Dario Cueto is in his office with Big Ryck, who was awarded the first “unique opportunity” on the premiere of Lucha Underground. Cueto gives Big Ryck the last Aztec medallion, and later tonight, Cueto will reveal the meaning behind the seven medallions. The holders of the medallions are as follows: Fenix, Jack Evans, Aerostar, Sexy Star, King Cuerno, Bengala, and Big Ryck.
Johnny Mundo vs. Texano
Several weeks ago, Alberto El Patron was in a #1 Contender’s match against Hernandez, when Johnny Mundo interfered, sending El Patron through the window of Dario Cueto’s office. El Patron has returned, and plans on getting revenge on Mundo. If Mundo wins this match against Texano, he will build much needed momentum to Ultima Lucha.
Texano has a potential match for himself as well at Ultima Lucha. Texano has challenge Chavo Guerrero to a match, but since then, Texano was attacked by Blue Demon Jr. for saying that he “is” Mexico. Blue Demon Jr. wants himself to represent Mexico, and not Texano. If Texano puts Mundo away, he could support his claim of “being” Mexico.
Texano lifts Mundo up for a powerbomb, when the Crew interferes in the match and hits Texaano with a kendo stick. After the match, Alberto El Patron saves Texano from a beatdown from the Crew and Johnny Mundo. This is an unexpected scenario, considering El Patron and Texano debuted in the Temple to continue a heated rivalry over the AAA Mega Championship. Winner (via disqualification): Texano
Backstage Segment
Dario Cueto now has Hernandez in his office to discuss his match against Drago at Ultima Lucha. Cueto announces a unique concept for their match, which will be seen in full force at Ultima Lucha.
The Mack vs. Cage
Two weeks ago, The Mack managed to roll up Cage for a quick victory, and Cage is furious that he lost that match. After not much fighting in this match, The Mack lands a sunset flip into a pinning combination to put Cage away again. Winner: The Mack
After the match, The Mack and Cage brawl outside of the ring, while constantly fighting off security. During the brawl, Dario Cueto exits his office to announce huge news for Ultima Lucha. First, the event will take two weeks, meaning Ultima Lucha will start next week. The second announcement is that at Ultima Lucha, The Mack and Cage will face each other in a Falls Count Anywhere match.
In-ring Segment
Dario Cueto is in the ring to announce what the meaning of the Aztec medallions is. Called “The Gift of the Gods,” it is a very unique belt that will give its holder a guaranteed Lucha Underground Championship opportunity. The only catch, however, is that it has to be one week in advance (unlike WWE’s Money in the Bank briefcase), so that Dario Cueto can promote the match. Once the belt is “cashed in,” the Aztec Medallions will be redistributed, and the fight for the Gift of the Gods Championship will begin again.
At Ultima Lucha, all seven Aztec medallion holders will compete in a seven-way match for the Gift of the Gods Championship. The medallion holders come into the ring to place their medallions in the Gift of the Gods Championship, with one obvious omission: Fenix. Dario Cueto announces a battle royal, where the winner will earn Fenix’s last medallion. After announcing this, Fenix returns to the Temple. Instead of awarding Fenix his medallion, Cueto just puts Fenix in the battle royal.
10-Man Battle Royal – Final Aztec Medallion
Since this is Lucha Underground, the rules for the battle royal are slightly different than the traditional battle royal. When two luchadores are left, the last luchador can only be eliminated by pinfall or submission.
Order of elimination: Ricky Mandel, Argenis, Killshot, Vinny Massaro, Super Fly, Mascarita Sagrada, Famous B, Delavar Daivari.
With eight luchadores eliminated, it leaves Marty “The Moth” Martinez, and Fenix to compete in a typical singles match. After a tilt-a-whirl hurricanrana, Fenix hooks the legs to score a pinfall over Martinez. Winner: Fenix
In-ring Segment
Since Konnan was put in a coffin by the Disciples of Death last week, Prince Puma comes down to the ring to make a statement about his mentor. Before Puma says anything, Mil Muertes and Catrina come down to the ring, and Prince Puma lays down the microphone, motioning Muertes to fight. While Puma is staring down Mil Muertes, he is attacked from behind by the Disciples of Death, which he takes out with ease. Muertes rushes to the ring, and ends up getting hit with a 630 Splash, showing what might happen at Ultima Lucha.
