Lucha Underground Recap: Ultima Lucha Dos Pt. I

This is it, the kickoff to the biggest event of Lucha Underground Season Two, and perhaps Lucha Underground history. Tonight features the “4 a Unique Opportunity” tournament, which was created by Dario Cueto last week. The Mack, Cage, Texano, and Son of Havoc will compete in a total of three matches to determine the winner of Dario Cueto’s greatest unique opportunity ever. Because Lucha Underground is only in one-hour long episodes and that Ultima Lucha Dos is such a big event, this is just the first of multiple weeks of Ultima Lucha Dos. Ultima Lucha Dos has the potential to rival NXT TakeOver: Dallas as the greatest event of the year.

The Mack vs. Cage – Falls Count Anywhere Match (4 a Unique Opportunity Semifinals)
Before the match starts, Dario Cueto exits his office to make an announcement. To make sure that Ultima Lucha Dos is as great and violent as the first iteration, Cueto makes this a Falls Count Anywhere match. This is unexpected, yet very typical of Dario Cueto. Cueto is a promoter who is looking to bring the most out of his performers, while also bringing the most money into his wallet. In order to do both of those things simultaneously, he increases the violence level.

These two use almost every weapon imaginable, including piñatas. Cage looks to finish The Mack off with a Curb Stomp on a cinder block, akin to last year. The Mack slips out and rolls up Cage for the win, advancing to the finals of the tournament. Winner: The Mack

Predicted Winner: Cage (He was the predicted winner of the tournament, not the individual match. Either way, I was wrong.) (0/1)

Texano vs. Son of Havoc – Bar Fight (4 a Unique Opportunity Semifinals)
Just like the previous match, Dario Cueto decides to spice up this match. Instead of a traditional singles match, Cueto makes this a bar fight, which is essentially as no disqualification match with a portable bar at ringside.

Son of Havoc slams Texano through the bar, and onto broken glass twice to put away Texano and advance to the finals, where he will face The Mack. Winner: Son of Havoc

Prediction: N/A

The Mack vs. Son of Havoc –  (4 a Unique Opportunity Finals)
Dario Cueto yet again exits his office to address the competitors. Cueto thought that the finals were going to include Cage and Texano, so this is a huge surprise for El Jefe. Since these two have to “earn” their unique opportunity, Cueto makes this the second Falls Count Anywhere match of the night. These two already have gone through brutal matches tonight, so this match is expected to go at a slower pace. However, it does not mean that they will go all out to put on a show stopper.

Son of Havoc outlasts the Mack and ends the match with an emphatic Shooting Star Press to win the match, the finals, and the unique opportunity. Winner: Son of Havoc

Dario Cueto comes down to the ring with Black Lotus to offer him two options. There is one briefcase containing $250,000 dollars. The other briefcase contains a match for the Lucha Underground Championship at Ultima Lucha Tres, which Son of Havoc ends up choosing. Cueto reveals that the only way Havoc will earn the match is if he defeats his next opponent. If his next opponent wins, he will win the $250,000 and Son of Havoc will lose the contract.

Prediction: N/A (0/1)

Son of Havoc vs. Dr. Wagner Jr. (w/Famous B & Brenda)
Famous B announces that Dr. Wagner Jr. is his new client, who is a huge name in the lucha libre circuit. If Wagner wins, it will be a lot like the debut episode of Lucha Underground where Dario Cueto screwed Johnny Mundo out of $250,000 and gave it to Big Ryck.

Wagner hits the Doctor Driver (practically a Michinoku Driver) on Son of Havoc to win the match and the briefcase of cash. This is also the first time that someone managed by Famous B picks up a victory. Winner: Dr. Wagner Jr.

Prediction: N/A (0/1)
