Pacquiao is going to be under a lot of pressure for this fight, a lot more than his usual pressure. Pacquiao has been at the top of the boxing limelight for the last ten years, and he has certainly become used to it, but this fight carries a lot of factors that could weigh-in against Pacquiao.
First of all, it is not clear how much of a draw Pacquiao is still going to be, nor what his PPV numbers will be this time around. The last time we saw Pacquiao was against Floyd Mayweather Jr, and that controversial fight made Pacquiao more money than any other boxer ever (except for his opponent) but it left a terrible taste in people’s mouths. Yes, the average Philippino fan is certainly still tuned into the Pac-man, but he may have lost some of his crossover appeal.
Pacquiao received some heat after the Mayweather Jr. fight when he blamed a bum shoulder for his bad performance. Well, he did undergo surgery to repair a torn right rotator cuff, and though Pacquiao is a left-handed fighter, it is still not a surgery to be taken lightly. He turned 37 last December, so he is now entering his late 30s and ring rust may also be a very real factor.
Bradley, on the other hand, is seemingly at the peak of his powers. He was able to win a split decision in their first meeting, and then fought poorly in the second fight to allow the series to even itself. The bottom line is that a change in trainers for Bradley to legendary Teddy Atlas has resulted in a much more efficient Bradley. At 32 years old he is always in top condition, and with Atlas he is unlikely to repeat the mistakes of the second fight.
Germany’s WBO Super Middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (44-4) is the first world titlist from that country to defend his belt in Las Vegas, and he has a tough challenge in front of him in the form of undefeated Mexican Gilberto Ramirez (33-0).
Former Featherweight world champion Evgeny Gradovich (21-1-1) also faces undefeated competition in the form of Oscar Valdez (18-0). Valdez is a highly touted propsect out of Mexico who has 16 knock outs in his 18 wins.
