Mapua forfeits its victory, and Gab Gamboa receives a lifetime suspension

The NCAA formally declared the Mapua’s victory over San Beda in the season’s opening game ineligible on Saturday. The change occurred after the Cardinals, who won the game 66-55, fielded Gab Gamboa, who was ineligible. Gamboa was discovered to have attended two schools concurrently.

“According to NCAA regulations, the game in which he participated will be forfeited. Both St. Clare and Mapua had accepted him as a student. He attended two colleges,” stated Tonichi Pujante, commissioner of the NCAA. Gamboa is permanently barred from participating in NCAA competition, he added.

The lowest club in the league, Mapua, will now drop to 0-6 and fall behind Emilio Aguinaldo College (0-5). San Beda is currently tied for second place with Lyceum with a 4-1 record. Gamboa’s departure from the team’s roster on September 18 was confirmed by Randy Alcantara, who would not provide any other details. Gamboa completed seven minutes of play while recording two points and two assists.
