The Syracuse Orange defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils 60-56 on Wednesday, March 14 in the First Four round of March Madness. Syracuse was a one-point underdog in this game according to the betting odds, so the Orange got the cover with the outright win. The game sailed under the total of 139.5 as well. All four First Four games in Dayton ended up going under the total, three by significant margins.
With the win, Syracuse will move on to the Round of 64 where it will face the TCU Horned Frogs on Friday. The betting odds for that showdown will be released soon by BetDSI Sportsbook, but the Orange are likely to be a decent underdog. For as great of a coach as Jim Boeheim is, he has never had much success against Jamie Dixon’s teams. Syracuse was 6-15 against Pittsburgh when Dixon was coaching the Panthers.
Neither team was able to shoot that well in this one, but Oshae Brissett did enough to give the Orange the victory. Brissett went 7-15 from the field and led all scorers with 23 points and was the top rebounder too with 12 boards.
Arizona State is going to be kicking itself for many things in this one. The biggest thing that stands out is how the Sun Devils performed at the line though. On the season, Arizona State shot 73.8 percent from the stripe, but the team was able to hit just 3 of 10 freebies here.
Coming into the NCAA Tournament, Syracuse’s odds of taking home the title were 350-1 at BetDSI. However, no team has ever won it all as a No. 11 seed. TCU’s odds of winning it all weren’t much better even though it is a No. 6 seed. The Horned Frogs were 170-1 before today’s action. The two sides will square off on Friday with the tip coming at 9:40 PM ET. The game is currently scheduled to be broadcast on CBS.
