The No. 5 West Virginia Mountaineers defeated the No. 12 Murray State Racers, 85-68, on Friday, March 16, in the 2018 NCAA Tournament’s Round of 64. West Virginia was the favorite and covered the 10.5-point spread. The game went over on the total of 145.5.
The Mountaineers will move on to face Marshall, which stunned No. 4 Wichita State earlier Friday, in the Round of 32. Odds for that Sunday matchup will soon be released by BetDSI Sportsbook, but we anticipate West Virginia will be favored, perhaps by as many as 10 points.
Senior guard Jevon Carter scored 21 points on 9-for-17 shooting to pace the Mountaineers on Friday. Carter added eight assists and five rebounds. West Virginia had 18 assists to Murray State’s 11. The Racers turned the ball over 16 times.
West Virginia’s odds to win the NCAA Tournament were solid, with BetDSI pegging the Mountaineers at +3500 to cut down the nets in San Antonio. The Racers entered the tournament with much slimmer odds at +100000, tied for the slimmest odds in the tournament.
