The River Hawks are hoping for a better outcome after their 86-74 loss to the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils in their last contest. One of Central Connecticut State’s biggest advantages was their ability to convert at the free throw line. They were 16-18 (88.9 percent), while the River Hawks were just 11-18 (61.1 percent). Ryan Jones was Massachusetts-Lowell’s high scorer with 18 points on 6-for-11 shooting.

In the Bears’ previous matchup, they let one slip away to the NJIT Highlanders, 63-60. NJIT’s 0.550 effective field goal percentage was their largest advantage over Brown, who had a rate of 0.420. Brown’s Tamenang Choh put together a good game, leading the team in scoring with 17 points on 7-for-12 shooting.

The Bears won the lone game against the River Hawks last season, 89-75. The Bears made 25 of their 29 free throws (86.2 percent) and had a much better offensive rebounding percentage (34.5 vs. 25.7).

The physical Brown offense could be living from the free throw line in this showdown. The Bears rank seventh in the country with a free throw attempt (FTA) rate of 0.308, while Massachusetts-Lowell ranks 195th in FTA rate allowed (0.237) dating back to the 2017-18 season.
