In headlines that make you do a double take, one of the Green Bay Packers’ key offseason acquisitions suffered a major injury on Wednesday night. New Packers head coach Matt LaFleur tore his Achilles’ tendon while playing pick-up hoops and will undergo surgery this weekend. LaFleur is one of the youngest coaches in the league, and he was only an offensive coordinator for two seasons before being hired as a head coach. He was the OC for the Los Angeles Rams in 2017, and he held that same position with the Tennessee Titans last year. The Packers are hoping that he can rejuvenate their offense in 2019.

Former Houston Texans tight end Ryan Griffin received some good news earlier today. It was announced that misdemeanor charges against him stemming from an arrest in Nashville on draft night have been dropped. Griffin had been charged with public intoxication and vandalism after punching out a window at a hotel in Tennessee’s capital. He was released by the Texans two weeks ago, and he is hoping to catch on with another team in the coming weeks.

Ndamakong Suh was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to replace Gerald McCoy last week, and Suh’s introductory press conference was held today. He was asked about his reputation in the league, and he gave a pretty candid response when asked about changing perceptions of who he is as a player. Suh is one of the top defensive tackles in the league, but many know him for his reputation as a dirty player. He did not have any big blow-ups as a member of the Los Angeles Rams last season, so the Bucs are hoping that he has matured.

With Jason Witten returning to the Dallas Cowboys, ESPN’s Monday Night Football has been looking to add another former NFL player to the booth. To no one’s surprise, their first choice was Peyton Manning, but Manning decided he wasn’t ready to move into the broadcast booth just yet. He hasn’t ruled out the possibility of becoming a broadcaster in the future though.
Manning on Monday Night Football …
"I talked to the Monday night football folks. I enjoyed talking to the them. I had great conversation. It wasn’t the right time this year. Maybe it will never be."
