Max Scherzer still seems to have plenty of good years left in Major League Baseball, but he’s already hitting some pretty big milestones: He recorded his 2,500th career strikeout in a loss to the Padres on Friday night, joining some exclusive company. Speaking of which, the Los Angeles Dodgers now own the record for most consecutive team games with a home run. The Giants avoided setting a much more ignominious record, and a young phenom who might well set some records one day has his major-league debut in Toronto. That and more in today’s top MLB news.
Only 35 pitchers in 120 years of modern baseball history have recorded 2,500 strikeouts. Max Scherzer, who is the third-fastest to reach the mark, seems like he’s got plenty more to go.

You don’t come to Dodger Stadium without giving up a home run. In fact, you don’t play the Dodgers anywhere without giving up a home run. Certainly not these days, anyway.
HISTORY.

The rival Giants, on the other hand, hadn’t scored a single run in the first inning all season. They finally got on the board three games shy of setting the MLB record for futility in that department … against a tough pitcher in the Yankees’ James Paxton, no less.
And in the 26th game, the Giants score a first-inning run for the first time in 2019. Buster Posey delivers a sac fly. Parade Monday.

Heard of this guy Vladimir Guerrero Jr.? If you’re a baseball fan, you surely have. He went 1 for 4 with a double in his Major League debut on Friday night, sparked the game-winning rally, and also hit a couple of loud outs.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 1 for 4 during his @MLB debut . . . and 1 for 1 afterward. Felicidades a la familia Guerrero. My dry cleaning bill will be sent to Rogers Centre. @MLBNetwork @Sportsnet (Photo credit @BlueJays) 😂🇨🇦 pic.twitter.com/NBfMtFN1fb

And finally, something you don’t see every day … the White Sox’s Jose Abreu turned a three-run home run into a two-run single and an out because he accidentally passed one of his teammates on the basepaths (the Sox won in the ninth anyway)
OH NO 😬
