Floyd Mayweather versus Ronda Rousey!?!

UFC female Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey continues to try to get her name in the media in any way possible, and one of her latest devices has been to call out boxing’s pound for pound greatest fighter, Floyd Mayweather.  The fight is from the world of fantasy, as it will never happen, but UFC President Dana White was the latest to check in with an opinion, and he is never short of an opinion.

‘Ronda will hurt him badly’ the UFC head honcho repeated on more than one occasion at a media event prior to UFC 173.  He went on to clarify, that in a street fight, or an MMA fight, Rousey would hurt Mayweather, and that in a boxing match, Mayweather would obviously win.  It is interesting that event he UFC President is speculating what would happen, since there is no competition on the horizon for Rousey in the UFC.

Mayweather has a better chance of beating Rousey in MMA than Rousey has of beating Mayweather in boxing.  A punch is a punch after all, and Mayweather has his full arsenal going into an MMA fight, whereas Rousey can’t use any of her bag of tricks except perhaps top body clinches in a boxing fight.

It is the street fight that is interesting, and White talked about what may be Rousey’s best asset.  She is mean.  This translates into what old time boxing people call ‘gameness’ or ‘bottom’, and Rousey channels it toward winning.  She is also in her prime physically, while Floyd will be entering middle age very soon, let’s hope he ages better than Roger!

But how would Ronda Rousey do against a legit 135 lb MMA fighter?  She won’t come up in weight to fight Cyborg Santos, but how would she do against Mike Thomas Brown?  Or what if a match where made for her with Urijah Faber?

No one would question that former UFC fighter and WEC Champion Miguel Torres was once one of the top Bantamweights in the world, and at 41-7 overall he is still a highly skilled MMA artist?  Would you bet against Ronda Rousey in a match against Torres?  Probably not.   Rousey may be a top 10 bantamweight in the world right now, regardless of gender.
