McGregor vs Alvarez Odds – The UFC 205 is set for Saturday, November 12th at venerable Madison Square Garden in New York City. The main card will be offered on pay-per-view and the main event is the lightweight title fight between titleholder Eddie Alvarez and the “Notorious One” Conor McGregor. The sports books have released the line and the over/under numbers, and as expected the fight is very close, with McGregor opening slightly favored.
The fight is possibly the most important fight in UFC history. McGregor holds the featherweight belt and he is looking to step up to the lightweight division and grab a UFC title in a second weight class. A win would put McGregor into new territory, and he is already by far the most popular fighter on the UFC roster.
But Alvarez is a bit of an x-factor with the UFC as he has not been with the company for very long. He grabbed the belt with a resounding KO of Rafael Dos Anjos to go to 3-1 in the “big show.” He stepped up to the occasion against Dos Anjos and the fact is that Alvarez has stepped up at every level all along his resume. Alvarez has that innate quality of being a “winner” and he is a true crowd pleaser. If Alvarez does have an achilles heel it is against taller opponents, but almost everyone is taller than Alvarez heading into fights. Three of his four losses come to opponents with height advantages, including his first career defeat against Nick Thompson.
The bottom line is that as a taller fighter with precise stand up and some opo in his mitts, McGregor possesses some of the pieces necessary to beat Alvarez. And as the McGregor legend has continued to grow, the Irishman will put Alvarez under more mental pressure than he has ever experienced.
At this point the UFC has to feel as if they have created a bit of a monster in McGregor. The UFC announced that McGregor would not be allowed to hold two divisional belts if he wins, but McGregor said,he wanted both belts and it is reality now, he was not forced to lay aside his featherweight belt. McGregor is smart and he is keenly aware of his drawing power. He has given the UFC’s management team headaches already and they should really fear what McGregor becomes if he wins this fight.
