Men’s Golf Opens at Fighting Irish Classic

On September 4-5, 2022–2023, the Fighting Irish Classic at the Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame will serve as the Tar Heel men’s golf team’s season opener. In each of the previous two NCAA Championships, Carolina advanced to match play and tied for fifth place. Dylan Menante, a former Pepperdine All-America, national champion, and two-time West Coast Conference Player of the Year, joins UNC’s returning four starters.

In the first two rounds on Sunday, UNC will be matched against the Irish of the host nation and the University of Florida. Austin Greaser, a senior who is one of three athletes representing the United States at the 2022 World Amateur Team Championship in Paris, won’t be playing for Carolina. David Ford, a sophomore, Ryan Burnett, a senior in his fifth year, Peter Fountain, and Kenan Poole, a senior, are among the UNC players making their season debuts. At Notre Dame, senior George McNeely will compete as an individual. According to the World Amateur Golf Rankings, Ford is presently ranked No. 16.
