Indeed, the New York Mets have Pete Alonso and an exciting starting rotation. Now, they have a flashy new managerial hire heading into the winter.
On Friday, the Mets will name Carlos Beltran their new manager according to a source. This news came from Anthony DiComo who covers the team for MLB.com.
Once everything is finalized, Carlos Beltrán will become the first Latino manager in Mets history:https://t.co/qiQ9eiEqdt

Although the move is not yet made official, DiComo already gathered a quote from one of Beltran’s former teammates on what kind of manager he will be. It’s possible you have heard of this teammate, Astros’ shortstop Carlos Correa.
“He’ll be an amazing manager. When he shows up and gets a job with the Mets, I feel like he’s going to change the culture of that clubhouse, he’s going to show the young players how to take care of business, how to study the other teams, how to take every single advantage that you can. He’s going to be a game-changer.”
Remember, Beltran signed a seven-year, $119 million contract before the 2005 season with the Mets. Over the course of that contract, he made the All-Star team five times. Therefore, the temperature in Flushing locally will be good in regards to the hire.
Notably, the Mets have some pieces for Beltran to work with as we mentioned at the beginning of this post. In addition to the names you know well, New York features Edwin Diaz, JD Davis, and Ahmed Rosario among others. It’s not completely out of the realm of possibility that the team could contend as soon as next season, even sharing a division with the newly crowned World Series champions Washington Nationals.
Finally, Beltran will replace Mickey Callaway who was recently fired after two seasons as the manager.
