Mets’ Troubles Continue, Urias Coming Back and More

The New York Mets have seen one thing after another go wrong this season, but this week has been a bad one even by their standards. Manager Mickey Callaway is under serious heat after the lowly Marlins swept New York. Robinson Cano is under fire because he has failed to run on an eventual double-play grounder — twice. And Yoenis Cespedes, seen by some as the savior who can still turn this season around, broke his ankle after a fall at his ranch. Elsewhere, Julio Urias reportedly will return soon to the Dodgers after his suspension last week, and Josh Hamilton is going into the Rangers’ Hall of Fame.

The Mets finally won a game on Monday, but even that came with bad news: Yoenis Cespedes is out for a longer period of time after breaking his ankle while rehabbing another injury.

Major League Baseball suspended Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias last week after he was arrested on domestic battery charges. It will be interesting to see where this case goes from here.

Cano not running out grounders is far, far from the Mets’ biggest problem right now, but it’s not helping the optics — or likely the team’s morale. And when you make that much money, you’re the scapegoat.

Josh Hamilton had a frustrating career in many ways, but for a couple of years he was the best hitter in baseball. For those, he’ll go into the Rangers’ Hall of Fame.

Jake Arrieta helped the Cubs win the World Series. When he returned as a member of the Phillies on Monday night, the fans gave him a warm standing ovation. What a moment.
