Michigan DC Gets Pay Raise, Utah State Adds Players From the P5

There might not be a better defensive mind in college football than Don Brown. Brown has been the defensive coordinator at Michigan for the last three seasons, and he has spearheaded some of the best defenses in the sport during that span. He was rewarded with a significant pay raise this offseason, and the next three years of his deal will pay him at least $4.9 million.

Don Brown has been one of the top defensive coordinators in the game for a little more than a decade. He was the defensive coordinator at Maryland and UConn before heading to Boston College where he became more widely known. His defenses were the only ones that could somewhat contain Jameis Winston’s Florida State teams in the middle of the decade, and Jim Harbaugh knows he has a great one.

Utah State could be one of the best Group of Five teams in college football this year. Gary Andersen is back for his second stint in Provo, and Jordan Love has turned some heads with his performance at quarterback camps this offseason. The Aggies have added some beef up front with the announcement that former Kentucky defensive end Jaylin Bannerman and former Oregon State defensive tackle Josh Bowcut have joined the team as graduate transfers and both players are eligible immediately.

Geoff Collins is doing a total rebuild at Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets were the only Power Five school running the triple option this decade, but Paul Johnson retired this offseason and Georgia Tech decided to change course. It’s going to be a very interesting year for Georgia Tech.
