MLB Fantasy Waiver Wire For Week 8

MLB

With so many injuries wreaking havoc on fantasy baseball leagues there is no doubt that the majority of fantasy GM’s have been forced to scour the waiver wire for plug and play options. The passing of the super two deadline should open the door for some of the top prospects in baseball to get an opportunity if their major league club believes they are ready. That should mean the eventual promotion of baseball’s top prospect Yoan Moncada, who is definitely ready for the spotlight. It should be no surprise he is among the top potential waiver wire additions right now. Here is a look at the top MLB waiver wire picks for this week.

2B/3B: Yoan Moncada, Chicago White Sox

Moncada will spend some time on the seven-day DL because of a thumb issue but that shouldn’t delay his move to the majors much longer. Moncada is the consensus No. 1 prospect in baseball and he has absolutely dominated at Triple-A Charlotte this season. Moncada has hit .331 with six home runs, four doubles and 10 steals in just 157 plate appearances in the minors this season. The White Sox are extremely close to calling him up. Once they do he should thrive as an everyday starter in Chicago this season.

OF: Jayson Werth, Washington Nationals

Werth is enjoying a renaissance season with the Nationals. The veteran outfielder is hitting .287 with six home runs, 23 runs scored and three steals in 129 plate appearances. Washington’s offense is absolutely loaded so Werth’s run and RBI totals should continue to rise for as long as he continues to produce at the plate. Playing near the top of one of the best lineups in baseball, it makes sense to take a shot on Werth.

RP: Koda Glover, Washington Nationals

While the Nationals offense has been lights out, their bullpen has been an absolute mess so far this season. Glover could definitely help in that department as a potential candidate to lock down the closer role. Glover has thrown four shutout innings since returning from the DL and his overall numbers this season are solid. Glover has posted a 2.77 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP over 13 innings of work. If you need help in your bullpen, then Glover might be worth taking a chance on as a waiver wire addition this week.

The Nationals have slowed down a bit after their hot starts but are still in first place in the National League East. They have a cushy 6.5 game league right now.

2B: Devon Travis, Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays are banged up and they are relying on Travis to produce at the plate. The young second basemen has been a disappointment for the most part but he has shown flashes of his potential of late. Travis has hit .542 with a home run, eight RBI and a stolen base over his last 24 plate appearances. Toronto will visit the Milwaukee Brewers before returning home to host the Texas Rangers so it’s worth taking a chance on Travis this week if you need help at second base.

The Blue Jays continue to have a miserable season but they have at least been playing .500 ball over the last couple of weeks. They are 19-26 overall and are 8.5 games out of first place in the American League East.

OF: Scott Schebler, Cincinnati Reds

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge leads the majors with 15 home runs this season. Schebler has hit 12. The peripheral numbers obviously aren’t as pretty as what Judge has brought to the table this season. However, Schebler has been a consistent power hitter that probably deserves a roster spot. Schebler has hit .255 with 12 bombs, 26 RBI and three stolen bases this season. If you need help in the outfield, make sure you take a chance on Schebler if he is still on the waiver wire in your fantasy baseball league.

The Reds are now 21-23 on the season. They continue to be competitive even though they were expected to be one of the worst teams in the MLB. They are currently four games out of first place in the division.
