MLB Fantasy Waiver Wire For Week 9

MLB Fantasy GM’s that own Mike Trout breathed a massive sigh of relief when they found out that x-rays came back negative for the leading AL MVP candidate following a sprained thumb injury he suffered on Sunday. Trout has been outstanding once again this season hitting .337 with 16 home runs and 36 RBI. The Los Angeles Angels have listed Trout as day-to-day, which is good news considering he won’t miss too much time. With Ryan Braun and Jacob Ellsbury also joining a growing list of injuries this week there are a number of fantasy owners that will be looking to the waiver wire for help. Here is a look at the best MLB fantasy waiver wire additions for this week.

3B: Yoan Moncada, Chicago White Sox

The clock is ticking for the White Sox to make their move and it’s only a matter of time before they bring up the top prospect in baseball. Moncada has hit .324 with six home runs, four doubles, 15 RBI and 10 steals so far this year and he is healthy again after missing some time with an injured thumb. Chicago could decide to bring up Moncada any day now so you might want to grab him before he is gone.

OF: Cameron Maybin, Los Angeles Angels

The veteran outfielder has been absolutely on fire despite dealing with a bruised knee late last week. Maybin has hit .318 with a 1.171 OPS over his last seven days. He has two home runs, six runs and three stolen bases over that span. Trout’s injury might negate some of his run potential but if you need help at the outfield position then you might want to consider adding Maybin while he is hot.

We’ll have to see how the Mike Trout injury affects Maybin. Trout was obviously a key cog in the lineup. The Angels don’t have a ton of quality bats, so there is more pressure on Maybin to deliver until Trout gets back.

1B: Lucas Duda, New York Mets

Another player that has really heated up of late is Duda. The veteran first basemen has hit .435 with three home runs and nine RBI over the last week of action. The Mets pitching staff has been an absolute mess but the offense has been very good and Duda can benefit from that. New York will host the Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates this week so Duda has the potential to stay hot.

RP: Koda Glover, Washington Nationals

The Nationals have officially handed the closer role to Glover so you might want to consider adding him if you need to shore up your relief staff. Glover picked up two saves last week while posting three strikeouts over 2.1 innings of shutout baseball. He should see plenty of opportunities in Washington so consider adding Glover if you need help in that department.

The Nationals have the fourth-best record in the National League at 30-19. More importantly, though, they find themselves in the easiest division in baseball. Why that’s important for MLB fantasy is that they should get plenty of wins beating up on their division rivals. Considering no other team is better than six games under .500 right now in the National League East, it means that Koda should have plenty of opportunities to close and pile up saves.

OF: Gerardo Parra, Colorado Rockies

The Rockies offense is one of the best in the majors and it’s at its best at home in Colorado in the elevation. Parra is coming off a solid week after hitting .389 with two home runs and nine RBI over a seven-day stretch last week. Colorado will play a home-and-home with the Seattle Mariners before visiting the San Diego Padres later in the week so Parra might also be worth taking a shot on this week.

The Rockies continue to be one of the best teams in baseball. They lead the National League division with a record of 33-19. On the season, they have a +45 run differential, which is behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks and Washington Nationals. However, they’ve found ways to get wins and that’s all that matters.
