MLB Handicapping – NL Handicappers Notebook

MLB Lines: The Milwaukee Brewers have been the surprise team in the National League as they have widened their unexpected lead in the NL Central and have not wilted as of yet as expected.  After a slow start the Pittsburgh Pirates have recovered and are back in the race but are yet to prove themselves as a reliable bet on the board.  It has been a bloodbath in the NL West with San Diego, Colorado, and Arizona incurring huge betting losses.

In the Black

The Milwaukee Brewers have been the most profitable team on the board in the National League and what has been most impressive is that they are showing no signs of slowing down and have been equally effective on the road and at home.  Milwaukee ranked 6th for run production and 2nd for quality starts.  Although they cooled off some in recent days the San Francisco Giants remained the second most profitable NL team but with rankings of 18th for run production and 16th for quality starts there were reasons for caution.

In the Red

It has been a catastrophic season for the Arizona Diamondbacks as they have been the biggest money loser on the betting board in the National League with the San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies, and Philadelphia Phillies also busting bankrolls at a rapid rate.  Arizona ranked 20th for run production and 27th for earned run average and was even worse against the run line at -2140 units compared to -1524 units on the money line.  San Diego was -1136 units on the money line and a horrific -2859 units on the run line.  The Padres ranked 30th in MLB for run production and 21st for quality starts.

Over Unders

With their lack of hitting and quality pitching the Atlanta Braves have been a reliable under team at 32-48 under the total.  Colorado was 47-30 over the total.
