Edwin Jackson has had a unique career. The pitcher became the most well-traveled player in the history of MLB earlier this year when the Oakland A’s dealt him to the Toronto Blue Jays. Upon taking the mound for the first time with Toronto, he set an MLB record by playing for his 14th different team, breaking a tie with former reliever Octavio Dotel. However, after just two months north of the border, his time appears to be up as Jackson was designated for assignment on Tuesday afternoon.

Toronto announced the move just before 3 PM on Tuesday afternoon. The Blue Jays needed to make room on the roster in order to bring back Jacob Waguespack, and Jackson was the odd man out.
Since being dealt to Toronto, Jackson had been shellacked. He had an ERA over 11 in eight appearances, and he was moved into the bullpen after five starts. Jackson was coming off his best performance in a Blue Jays’ uniform, not allowing a run in three innings of work against Boston on Monday night.
Jacob Waguespack starts Tuesday in Boston.

Waguespack will get his first start of his career tonight at Fenway Park. Waguespack has appeared in two games this season, throwing four innings against Tampa Bay in late May, and he threw five innings against Boston two weeks ago. In that outing, the young pitcher allowed six hits and three runs, but he secured the first win of his career.
The Mets, Phillies, Reds, Pirates, Brewers, Giants, Rockies, Red Sox, Yankees, Twins, Royals, Clevelanders, Mariners, Angels, Astros and Rangers have still never employed Edwin Jackson. One of them needs to pull the trigger on this and get him to 15 teams. https://t.co/6dJupfPqa7

Jackson can now be picked up by any team in the majors, and many are hoping that he finds a spot on another big league roster just so he can get to 15 teams. That would be half of MLB’s franchises, and potentially set the record for most MLB teams played for out of reach. Jackson is 35 years old, and he threw an incredible 149-pitch no hitter (with eight walks) as a member the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2010.
