MLB News: Braves Get Dansby Swanson Back, A’s to Retire Dave Stewart’s Number and More

One of the hottest teams in baseball is about to get a key piece back, as the Atlanta Braves activated shortstop Dansby Swanson from the injured list Monday morning. Speaking of key pieces, Dave Stewart will forever be linked with the 1989 World Series champion Athletics, and now the team is retiring his number. Christian Yelich is in the Body Issue, the Rays lost their founding father and the Dodgers might be adding more muscle for the stretch run.

The first-place Braves have won eight in a row. Now Swanson is over his foot injury and can make them even better.

Stewart was 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA to be named MVP of the 1989 World Series. He spent seven productive seasons in Oakland and also was MVP of the 1990 ALCS.

Yelich is the only baseball player listed on ESPN The Magazine’s roster for its annual Body Issue. That’s the one in which nude athletes pose (carefully) for a photo shoot.

The (Devil) Rays’ original owner, Vince Naimoli, died Sunday at age 81. He played a key role in bringing Major League Baseball to the Tampa Bay area.

The Dodgers lineup is stacked, but they could be adding reinforcements soon in the shape of top prospect Gavin Lux.
