MLB News: Cubs’ Willson Contreras to IL, Nelson Cruz Hits 3 Homers and More

Another day, another bunch of injuries for Major Leaguers. Oh, and there were some amazing performances too. On a day when the Yankees lost Edwin Encarnacion, the Cubs also had a star hit the shelf in catcher Willson Contreras. The Angels put three players on the IL at the same time, and the Twins saw one of their newest players, Sam Dyson, get hurt. On the other hand, Nelson Cruz continued his amazing recent performance and Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield helped the other Cleveland team.

Willson Contreras had returned from the injured list for less than two weeks when he reportedly pulled a hamstring Saturday. He’ll be out at least a couple of weeks.

Nelson Cruz has twice hit three home runs in the past 10 days and has 70 total bases in his past 72 at-bats. And he’s 40 years old. Those are the facts.

In not-so-good Twins news, Minnesota acquired reliever Sam Dyson at the trade deadline. After a couple of very poor outings, he’s already hit the IL.

The Angels had to place pitchers Felix Pena (out for the season) and Griffin Canning and .shortstop Andrelton Simmons on the IL, all on the same day.

Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield became the latest NFL star to chug a beer on a stadium video board. It immediately sparked an Indians rally, because of course it did.
