MLB News: Dave Roberts Apologizes to Diamondbacks, Mets Rally Again and More

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts yelled at an unknown Diamondbacks employee during a post-game melee Friday night. Turns out that employee was Sunday’s starting pitcher, Robbie Ray. Roberts apologized to Ray for letting his emotions get away from him. Speaking of emotions, the Mets rallied again and inched ever closer to a wild-card spot — and to the first-place Braves, who had a bullpen meltdown. And then a clubhouse meltdown. And speaking of bullpen mishaps, the Cubs placed another reliever on the injured list.

Roberts said he didn’t realize the person he was yelling at was Ray. The D-backs pitcher accepted his apology. Still, Sunday’s game is worth watching.

The Mets have now won 15 of their past 16 and are in the thick of the wild-card race. Is this a repeat of the Amazin’ Mets of 1969?

Meanwhile, atop the NL East, the Braves blew a three-run lead in the ninth inning Saturday against last-place Miami. Then Sean Newcomb lost the game in the 10th and lost his cool in the clubhouse, kicking a trash can and breaking a fire extinguisher.

The Cubs have their own bullpen problems. Steve Cishek joined Craig Kimbrel on the IL for a team that has had trouble holding leads.
