Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski hit for the Triple Crown, but he also only hit three home runs in a game once in his great career. His grandson, Mike Yastrzemski, already has equaled him as a rookie. The young Yaz went deep three times in the San Francisco Giants’ 10-9 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night. Elsewhere, Addison Russell is back with the Cubs, who still can’t find a way to get the final three outs. And Yankees manager Aaron Boone is in favor of what would be a fairly radical rule change.
Mike Yastrzemski wasn’t a hyped-up prospect, but he’s now got 16 home runs in about a half-season with the Giants.

Elsewhere, the Cubs recalled Addison Russell from Triple-A. The shortstop, who served a domestic violence suspension, was sent down for mental mistakes and struggles at the plate.

Meanwhile, however, the Cubs bullpen continues to struggle. This time, it was Pittsburgh that rallied from a deficit to walk off the Cubs.

Taking his cue from the Little League World Series, Yankees manager Aaron Boone thinks the Major Leagues should explore a mercy rule. Think fantasy teams would be OK with it?
Aaron Boone says he wouldn’t be opposed to some sort of mercy rule in the regular season for blowouts like last night. Said he thinks it would help cut down on some of the unwritten rule stuff about whether or not to swing on 3-0 in a lopsided game, etc.

From a cancer diagnosis back to the pitcher’s mound in less than a year? That’s what Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco is attempting.
