A couple of beloved figures in San Francisco shared one final moment with the Giants on Sunday, as retiring manager Bruce Bochy gave personable slugger Pablo Sandoval one more at-bat before Sandoval undergoes surgery on his elbow. Elsewhere, the Dodgers avoided a serious injury when a line drive hit pitching prospect Dustin May in the head, and they’re also calling up another top prospect Monday. The Reds might have lost third baseman Eugenio Suarez, and the Indians certainly have lost Tyler Naquin until next season.
The Giants activated Sandoval off the injured list for one at-bat during an 8-4 loss. Anticlimactic? Perhaps. But the crowd still gave him a meaningful standing ovation.

Scary moment here. But Dustin May appears to be all right after taking this line drive in the head. He’ll be re-examined before he pitches again.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers will bring up yet another top prospect in middle infielder Gavin Lux. Word is he’ll start at second base for Max Muncy while Muncy is on the injured list.
In one season, the Dodgers are going to have promoted Will Smith, Dustin May, Tony Gonsolin and now Gavin Lux, who may be the best of them all and will start at second base Monday. The player-development machine in Los Angeles is incredible — and plenty more are on the way.

Like Muncy earlier in the week, the Reds’ Eugenio Suarez left Sunday’s game after being hit with a pitch. Suarez had hit his 40th home run earlier in the game.

Remember the Indians hoping Tyler Naquin only sprained his knee after making a great catch Saturday? Yeah, it was worse than that. Get well soon, Tyler.
