Two of baseball’s top teams continued to show why Wednesday in dramatic fashion. The Yankees scored 14 more runs in Baltimore and set another home run record in the process. And the Dodgers, down 1-0 the entire game to St. Louis, reached double digits in walk-off victories with another stunning rally.
There are other World Series contenders, to be sure. The Houston Astros are a juggernaut that only seems to be getting better, and the Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins are all division leaders playing very good baseball. But the teams in baseball’s two biggest markets are winning in style, attracting attention from coast to coast.
The postseason picture isn’t getting any more clear in the National League, which has eight teams separated by five games.

Bronx Bombers, indeed
On Monday, the Yankees hit five home runs in Baltimore to set a Major League record for homers in an opposing ballpark with 32.
Turns out they were just getting started. Then they added six more on Tuesday and five on Wednesday. That’s 43 home runs in an opposing ballpark in 10 games, a record that seems like it’ll stand for a long time.
By means of comparison, the Orioles scored a grand total of 44 runs in those 10 game. So perhaps it’s no surprise the Yankees went 10-0 in Baltimore this season.
And by the way, New York gets Baltimore for four next week in the Bronx, where the Yanks can add to their record of 52 homers against one opponent in a single season.

Boys in Blue, too
Not to be outdone, the Dodgers came back to beat the Cardinals on Wednesday. L.A. doesn’t have a punching bag like Baltimore in its division, but the Dodgers have made it almost impossible for a road team to beat them this year.
This time, Russell Martin chopped a single up the middle against Cardinals closer Carlos Martinez to score two runs and beat St. Louis 2-1 to finish off a sweep.
Dodgers radio announcer Charley Steiner has developed a saying in the ninth inning of home games this season: “Great expectations, impending doom,” to summarize the feelings in the two dugouts. And it’s held true: This is the Dodgers’ 10th walk-off victory this season (by comparison, the Tigers have 14 home wins, period), and they’re 46-15 at Chavez Ravine.
The best news? The Yankees and Dodgers play a possible World Series preview (yes, we know the Astros are still the favorites) with a three-game series Aug. 23-25 in L.A.
