Toronto FC’s Sebastian Giovinco and New York City FC’s David Villa showcased their world-class talents in a 4-4 draw last week that has left a lasting impression on us heading in to a new week. Both of their teams face favorable matchups from a fantasy perspective, so that’ll help our cause. Giovinco and Villa won’t combine for six points every single week but they did enough matched up against one another to go back to them as the foundation for our fantasy team for this weekend.
GK: Tyler Deric, Houston
Salary: $3,700
Deric stopped all three shots he faced in last week’s win over the San Jose Earthquakes and he will have another opportunity at a clean sheet this weekend versus Real Salt Lake. The Dynamo have some important room to make up in the Western Conference standings and they need to capitalize against Orlando, so keep an eye out for Houston’s starting goalkeeper this weekend. There are a handful of quality matchups for goalkeepers this weekend but Deric is available at an excellent price so we will roll with him here.
D: Dylan Remick, Seattle
Salary: $4,400
Seattle is back at the top of the Western Conference standings and now they get the opportunity to create some separation from the Vancouver Whitecaps if they can beat a Colorado team that is buried at the bottom of the conference. Colorado’s 17 goals are the fewest in the MLS this season and that makes Remick an excellent value play at the defender position with a good chance they secure a clean sheet.

D: Aurelien Collin, Orlando SC
Salary: $3,700
Don’t make the mistake of thinking that Orlando is going to completely shut down NYCFC because they won’t. What separates Collin is his extremely reasonable price tag and the fact that he could pitch in with some offensive help. Orlando will be in very tough to slow down the New York attack but Collin has been excellent overall and his price point just fits in under our salary cap.
M: Felipe Martins, New York City FC
Salary: $5,900
It was disappointing to see Martins finish with only two shots in last week’s 4-4 draw. His point total this season is pretty disappointing but he will be looking to make an impact this week as he tries to prove he’s an important piece for NYCFC. Martins was in on a number of close calls that didn’t pay off in his last game and with a little more luck, he should have a productive week at a decent price.
M: Michael Bradley, Toronto FC
Salary: $5,700
Philadelphia has had its fair share of issues at the defensive end of the field and Bradley is exactly the type of creative midfielder that can pick them apart. Giovinco is easily the most dangerous striker available this week and we love the idea of having the creative midfielder working behind him in our lineup at a decent price.
F: Sebastian Giovinco, Toronto FC
Salary: $11,600
Giovinco put Toronto on his back last week with three goals and an assist in a 4-4 draw and the scariest part about that is the fact he could have had four goals if he was a little luckier. His early penalty kick rang off the bar. Giovinco will have plenty of opportunities to add to his goal total against a Philadelphia team that has allowed the second-most in the MLS this season.
F: David Villa, New York City FC
Salary: $11,400
Villa had two goals and a remarkable four shots in last week’s draw with TFC. He gets another chance to add to his goal total this week versus Orlando. Villa is one goal back of Giovinco with 10 overall and every time he has the ball on his foot, he is a threat to score, so we won’t back down from picking him here.
FLEX: Seb Hines, Orlando
Salary: $3,600
Hines is another defender that is available at a cheap enough price to fit him in our roster at the FLEX position with the hope that he can do enough to help us secure a win this weekend. Giovinco, Villa, Bradley and Martins all have the potential to put up big numbers but with Hines and Collin, we are only hoping that he can provide something while fitting our budget.
