It was a busy weekend in the MLS with 10 games on the schedule, including seven on Saturday alone. That means there were plenty of options to choose from in daily fantasy leagues. A number of star players that lived up to their reputations while quality sleeper plays emerged too. Here is a look at the best individual fantasy performances by position from this past weekend’s MLS action.
GK: Stefan Frei, Seattle
The Sounders extended their undefeated run to four games with their first clean sheet win over that span as Frei was outstanding once again. He stopped all eight shots he faced in Seattle’s 3-0 win over the Western Conference-leading Vancouver Whitecaps and there is no doubt that was the top fantasy performance among MLS goalkeepers.
GK: Nick Rimando, Real Salt Lake
Orlando City’s Tally Hall and Montreal’s Evan Bush both recorded clean sheet wins and get honorable mention in this category, but it was Rimando that earned the second spot in our top fantasy goalkeeper performance rankings. That’s because he made four saves in a 3-0 win over the LA Galaxy. RSL is still on the outside looking in to the Western Conference playoff standings but they are coming off a pair of impressive wins over Houston and LA and Rimando was excellent in both. Honorable Mention: Tally Hall, Orlando City SC; Evan Bush, Montreal
D: Damien Perrinelle, New York Red Bulls
The Red Bulls were solid at both ends of the pitch in their 2-0 win over Portland and Perrinelle was the best of three different defenders on the squad that found their way on to the score sheet. Perrinelle had a goal and four shots in the Red Bulls’ 2-0 win and the clean sheet helped put his fantasy performance over the top as the best among MLS midfielders.
D: Damien Perquis, Toronto FC
Sebastian Giovinco continued his dominance for Toronto FC but he didn’t have to do it alone thanks to a timely goal from the defender Perquis in the 38th minute. That helped them put away a 3-1 win over the Colorado Rapids. Perquis isn’t exactly known for his offense but he was solid at both ends of the pitch in this one and his goal helped make the difference as he registered one of the top performances for MLS defenders. Honorable Mention: Sal Zizzo, New York Red Bulls; Kemar Lawrence, New York Red Bulls
M: Benny Feilhaber, Sporting Kansas City
Feilhaber picked up from where he left off last week when he had an assist on Sporting KC’s lone goal in a 3-1 loss to Orlando City SC. The only difference this time was that he managed to score two goals himself in a 3-1 win over FC Dallas. Feilhaber now has 10 goals and 10 assists in 29 games this season. He will need to be big for Sporting KC the rest of the year if they are going to make the playoffs in the Western Conference.
M: Ned Grabavoy, New York City FC
NYCFC has followed up three straight losses with consecutive wins over Toronto FC and San Jose and Grabavoy was excellent as he scored twice on as many shots in a 3-2 win over San Jose. It was an unexpected performance from a midfielder that had just one assist in 23 games heading in to this season and it earned him the second spot on this list for MLS midfielders. Honorable Mention: Tranquillo Barnetta, Philadelphia; Sebastien Le Toux, Philadelphia

F: Sebastian Giovinco, Toronto FC
Giovinco moved into fourth on Toronto FC’s all-time goal scoring list with a pair of goals, including the winner against Colorado. He now sits second in the MLS with 19 goals on the season. Giovinco has the potential to catch Columbus’ Kei Kamara for the top spot on this list with a strong finish. Toronto couldn’t have expected more from the Atomic Ant in his first MLS season.
F: David Villa, New York City FC
Villa had a goal and an assist to edge out Montreal’s Didier Drogba and the top two forwards from Seattle for the forward honors this past weekend. Villa has 17 goals in 27 games this season and after consecutive wins, New York is back in the hunt for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Honorable Mention: Didier Drogba, Montreal; Obafemi Martins, Seattle; Clint Dempsey, Seattle
