The MLS soccer season continues this week with eight games on the schedule for Saturday. That will mean plenty of options to choose from when it comes to building the perfect roster in MLS fantasy competitions. We took the time to break down the best combination of star sleeper plays and strong value options in order to deliver the best possible lineup for this week’s action. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for Saturday’s MLS Fantasy DraftKings Daily Leagues.
GK: Luis Robles, New York Red Bulls
Salary: $4,200
Robles had recorded four straight clean sheet wins for the Red Bulls before a 2-1 loss to Real Salt Lake on Wednesday and we are banking on New York bouncing back when they visit Columbus on Saturday. Robles is available at a very reasonable price and he could end up being the best goalkeeper option on the board if the Red Bulls are able to shut down a Crew side that currently ranks second-last in the Eastern Conference standings.
D: Drew Moor, Toronto FC
Salary: $4,300
Moor provided the lone goal for Toronto FC in its 1-0 win over the LA Galaxy its last time out and that offensive upside makes him that much more intriguing as a strong value option for Saturday. TFC has allowed an MLS-low 15 goals this season and should be able to hold Orlando at bay with Moor a strong pick to deliver at both ends of the pitch this weekend.
D: Chris Duvall, New York Red Bulls
Salary: $4,300
Duvall is another strong value option based on the fact that he plays for a team with a favorable matchup this week and still offers some offensive upside in addition to his strong defensive play. Duvall isn’t an elite defender option but he is a sound pick here as a prime fit for our lineup with the potential for the low-cost defender options to allow us to spend more at the other more important positions.
M: Giovani Dos Santos, LA Galaxy
Salary: $9,300
Dos Santos has been the Galaxy’s best midfielder all season and we are banking on that continuing in Saturday’s game against San Jose. Dos Santos has the potential to create for others as well as score on his own and he should find a way to get on the score sheet against the Earthquakes as an excellent midfield option.
M: Andrea Pirlo, New York City FC
Salary: $6,500
Pirlo has stepped up his level of production in recent games for NYCFC and we are banking on him delivering another impressive performance on Saturday versus Seattle. The Sounders have just one win in their past five games and should be vulnerable against the dangerous New York City attack.
F: Didier Drogba, Montreal
Salary: $9,200
Drogba has the potential to deliver an explosive MLS fantasy performance every time that he is on the pitch and that will certainly be the case again this week when the Impact host Sporting KC. Montreal is right there in the middle of the race for one of the top spots in the Eastern Conference and they will need Drogba to come through this weekend with a chance to secure an important three points at home.
F: Bradley Wright-Phillips, New York Red Bulls
Salary: $9,200
We will continue to turn to the Red Bulls in MLS fantasy. They have favorable matchup this week, so we’ll add another pick from New York in Wright-Phillips, who is tied with Toronto FC’s Sebastian Giovinco and Montreal’s Ignacio Piatti for the second-most goals in the MLS this season with eight. Wright-Phillips will have plenty of opportunities to add to his goal-scoring total on Saturday and that makes him a smart pick at under $10K.
Util: Lawrence Olum, Sporting KC
Salary: $3,200
With under $4K left to spend on our final roster spot it only makes sense to turn to the player we feel has the highest upside in Olum. He isn’t the most flashy player but he did score for Sporting KC in their 2-0 win over FC Dallas so we will take a chance on him in MLS fantasy to produce as a smart value play for Saturday’s MLS action.
