MLS Fantasy: Top Individual Performances In Week 3

We’ll start our MLS fantasy recap with FC Dallas, who followed up a 2-0 win over the Montreal Impact with an even more convincing 3-0 win over DC United on the weekend. They have sent an early message to the rest of the MLS that they are ready to contend for a championship this season. With only three games on the MLS schedule on Saturday, it’s no surprise that FC Dallas is well represented from an MLS fantasy perspective. Here is a look at the top individual MLS fantasy performances by position this past weekend.

GK: David Ousted, Vancouver

Ousted was one of two goalkeepers to record a clean sheet win over the weekend, but he narrowly edged out Chris Seitz of FC Dallas thanks to the three more saves he made. Ousted stopped all five shots he faced in the 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo, as Whitecaps FC earned their second consecutive win after opening the season with back-to-back losses. Vancouver now sits in fourth place in the MLS standings with six points through four games. While this was a strong effort from Ousted, Vancouver has still allowed six goals in four games, which is the second-most in the Western Conference.

Honorable Mention: Chris Seitz, FC Dallas; Josh Saunders, New York City FC

D: Chris Tierney, New England

Tierney helped the New England Revolution salvage a point with a 1-1 draw against New York City FC, scoring in the 38th minute after falling behind early on. It was New England’s first goal over its last three games and Tierney’s first point in four games this season. That point was just the third of the season for New England, who currently sits in seventh place in the MLS standings. Only Chicago, D.C. United and Columbus have fewer points in the Eastern Conference.

Honorable Mention: Zach Loyd, FC Dallas; Matt Hedges, FC Dallas

M: Michael Barrios, FC Dallas

The FC Dallas midfielders absolutely dominated in the most lopsided win of the weekend with Barrios leading the way. Barrios scored two goals in the first 28 minutes of the 3-0 win including the game-winning goal and finished with three shots on target.

M: Mauro Diaz, FC Dallas

Diaz was limited to an assist in the 3-0 win but was all over the field in the win over DC United. Diaz has registered four points in as many games this season with a goal and three assists along with 10 shots on target. Fabian Castillo also earned honorable mention in the FC Dallas midfield after he recorded an assist and shot on target in the win. Dallas has now registered seven goals in four games this season, which is the second-most in the Western Conference next to Houston’s 11.

Honorable Mention: Fabian Castillo, FC Dallas; Pedro Morales, Vancouver

F: Max Urruti, FC Dallas

Urruti added the final goal for FC Dallas in the 52nd minute to seal the victory, finishing the game with three shots in total. The 25-year-old striker is one of the hottest forwards in the MLS out of the gate with three goals through his first four games of the season. He’s the third Dallas member on our MLS fantasy list. Dallas has moved up into a tie with Sporting KC for first place in the Western Conference, but remember that Sporting KC has a game in hand.

F: Thomas McNamara, New York City FC

New York City FC earned a point for the third time in four games thanks to McNamara’s goal in a 1-1 draw with New England. McNamara has two goals and an assist with nine shots on target through four games and will need to continue to produce at a high level if NYCFC is going to be a playoff contender in 2016. After the weekend, New York FC now sits in fourth place in the MLS standings with five points. However, they are just one point back of the Montreal Impact and Philadelphia Union in the Eastern Conference standings.

Honorable Mention: David Villa, New York City FC; Masato Kudo, Vancouver
