With only three games on the schedule for Saturday night every individual pick in DraftKings daily fantasy leagues will be that much more important. We took the time to break down the perfect combination of star players and strong sleeper options in order to set you up with the best possible roster. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for Saturday’s DraftKings MLS fantasy leagues.
GK: Alex Bono, Toronto FC
Salary: $4,700
Toronto FC is among the league leaders in goals allowed in the MLS this season and we don’t expect them to miss a beat even with top goalkeeper Clint Irwin set to miss more than a month due to injury. Bono is more than capable of holding his own in goal and Toronto should have no problem closing the door on a Seattle side that has really struggled this season. For MLS fantasy purposes, Seattle has scored just 13 goals this season. That’s by far the fewest in the Western Conference and the least in the MLS.
D: Drew Moor, Toronto FC
Salary: $4,300
Moor has been among the most consistent defenders for TFC so far this season and we expect that will continue with another strong performance against the Sounders. Moor has shown flashes of offensive potential but his defensive prowess should be enough to make him worth taking a shot on this Saturday versus Seattle.
D: Joshua Yaro, Philadelphia
Salary: $3,200
Philadelphia is in a favorable position for Saturday with the Houston Dynamo in town. Houston is at the bottom of the Western Conference and hasn’t won on the road yet this season so the Union should be able to keep them from lighting it up with Yaro as a strong MLS fantasy value option. Philadelphia has scored 29 goals this season, which is the most of any team in the MLS.
M: Chris Pontius, Philadelphia
Salary: $6,100
Pontius has been a little bit inconsistent for Philadelphia this season but Saturday’s contest against Houston will represent the perfect opportunity for him to break through with a big game. The Union should have plenty of scoring chances and Pontius will be front and center in their attack.
M: Diego Fagundez, New England
Salary: $5,600
New England will be in tough against the Montreal Impact but we don’t expect them to go down without a fight. Fagundez has underachieved somewhat this season but the talented midfielder should have a significant impact against Montreal on Saturday. New England has scored just 21 goals in 16 games this season but they have given up 28 in those contests. The 28 they’ve allowed is the most in the Eastern Conference. We’re banking on this becoming a high-scoring affair for MLS fantasy purposes, which would mean that both sides play a little bit loose.
F: Sebastian Giovinco, Toronto FC
Salary: $12,600
Giovinco is among the most lethal strikers in the MLS and there is no doubt he should be in the majority of lineups on Saturday. Our smart value plays at other positions allowed us to save enough money to spend big on him in this spot so roll with Giovinco against Seattle in MLS fantasy. However, keep in mind that Toronto has struggled at the offensive end, scoring just 17 goals in 15 games this season, which is the third-fewest in the Eastern Conference.
F: Didier Drogba, Montreal
Salary: $9,600
Drogba is another explosive offensive option up front and the perfect compliment to Giovinco for an elite striker tandem. Drogba only needs a couple of touches to do some serious damage and we are banking on that he will deliver again on Saturday. As mentioned, no team in the East has allowed more goals than New England, so this should be a good spot for Drogba.
FLEX: Richie Marquez, Philadelphia
Salary: $3,500
Marquez is another strong value option for the Philadelphia defense with a good chance his fantasy score benefits from completely shutting the door against Houston. Marquez should play the full 90 minutes against the Dynamo and anything he does at the offensive end of the pitch will be extra as a smart value FLEX play.
