The MLS season continues on Saturday with 12 different teams in action. While there will certainly be plenty of options to choose from in terms of building a winning MLS fantasy lineup we narrowed down the field to create what we feel is the perfect combination of star talent and sleeper value options. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for Saturday’s DraftKings MLS Fantasy Leagues.
GK: Alex Bono, Toronto FC
Salary: $4,800
Toronto FC has just one win in its last seven games but they have a favorable matchup against Chicago on Saturday and they should be overdue for a win. TFC has allowed the second-fewest goals in the MLS Eastern Conference this season and Bono is available at a very reasonable price with the clean sheet possibility in place.
D: Drew Moor, Toronto FC
Salary: $4,200
Moor has been solid for TFC and should benefit from the favorable matchup as well. Most importantly, he is a reasonably priced asset that we trust in this spot. Toronto has been excellent from a defensive standpoint this season. They have allowed just 19 goals in 16 games. That is the second-best mark in the Eastern Conference as only D.C. United (17) has allowed less. No other team in the East has allowed less than 20.
D: Steven Beitashour, Toronto FC
Salary: $4,100
Beitashour is another reasonably priced option from Toronto FC that we can trust in this spot. Rolling with two reasonably priced defenders and another at the FLEX position will allow us to spend big at the other positions with some star power at the forward and midfield spots. Toronto has been fairly airtight from a defensive perspective over the last month or so. They have allowed just one goal in their last four games.
M: Giovani dos Santos, LA Galaxy
Salary: $9,200
The LA Galaxy will look to extend their undefeated run to four games in a row when they visit Seattle and dos Santos is the best available option on the board. The Galaxy midfielder is coming off a strong performance against San Jose when he scored and had three shots on target and he should have his share of opportunities against the Sounders this weekend.
M: Steven Gerrard, LA Galaxy
Salary: $7,500
Gerrard had an assist in the tie with the Earthquakes and he certainly could have registered more points after finishing with a total of six shots. Gerrard has the potential to go off again versus Seattle and at just $7.5K he is the perfect second option at the midfield position for this Saturday’s DraftKings contests.
F: Sebastian Giovinco, Toronto FC
Salary: $12,500
Giovinco has clearly been one of the most consistent and lethal strikers in the MLS this season and there is every reason to expect him to be able to deliver against Chicago this weekend. Giovinco is clearly the most expensive option on the board for this week’s DraftKings contests and after finding some good value plays at the defender and FLEX positions we are able to afford him in this spot. Keep in mind that Toronto has mustered just 18 goals in 16 games this season.
F: Michael Salazar, Montreal
Salary: $3,900
Salazar is another intriguing sleeper value play after he scored two goals eight minutes apart in Montreal’s 3-2 win over the New England Revolution last weekend. Salazar did enough that he should get his opportunity to produce this Saturday and at just $3.9K he is an outstanding option up front at the forward position. Montreal has been a steady source of offense this season as they’ve scored 27 goals in 16 games. You can count on them producing.
FLEX: Jeile Van Damme, LA Galaxy
Salary: $3,800
Van Damme has quietly been very good for the Galaxy and at just $3.8K he makes for the best value option that we can still afford with the remaining salary that we have left over for the FLEX position in MLS fantasy. The Galaxy have been one of the best teams for MLS fantasy purposes as they’ve scored a whopping 30 goals so far this season. Although two other teams have 30 goals, no team has more than that.
