The MLS fantasy season continues with an absolutely loaded slate this weekend and that means plenty of opportunities to make some serious money in DraftKings tournaments. The action will get underway when the New York Red Bulls visit the New England Revolution on Friday night followed by seven games on Saturday. The majority of DraftKings contests will cover the full slate of eight games including the MLS $50 Quarter Arcade, which costs just 25 cents to enter. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for this week’s DraftKings MLS tournaments.
GK: Jesse Gonzalez, FC Dallas
Salary: $4,500
FC Dallas has rebounded nicely from an embarrassing loss to Houston with back-to-back wins over Montreal and DC United. They should be able to extend their win streak this weekend when they host the Columbus Crew. Dallas hasn’t allowed a goal in either of its last two wins and they will took to capitalize on home field advantage when they host the Crew on Saturday.
D: Matt Hedges, FC Dallas
Salary: $3,200
The favorable matchup combined with Hedges’ low price tag makes him a strong pick as our top defender option. Hedges has looked good in three of Dallas’ four games and his fantasy score could definitely benefit from a clean sheet bonus against Columbus.
D: Kip Colvey, San Jose
Salary: $3,000
San Jose is coming off its first loss of the season but will be favored to bounce back with DC United in town this weekend. The Earthquakes have conceded just one goal through their first two home games while DC United has been held to two goals through four games this season so Colvey will be a legitimate contender for a clean sheet bonus.
D: Victor Bernardez, San Jose
Salary: $2,900
The combination of matchup and price tag makes Bernardez another solid play on the back end along with his teammate Colvey. Neither player has much offensive upside but they are solid defenders available at a very low price that allows us to save more money to spend elsewhere.
M: Mauro Diaz, FC Dallas
Salary: $7,500
Diaz is the highest priced player on our roster at $7.5K, but he will be worth every dollar as long as he continues to produce at the rate he has early on this season. Diaz leads the entire MLS with four assists in four games and should be in line for another productive game against a Columbus team still in search of its first win.
M: Pedro Morales, Vancouver
Salary: $5,600
Diaz is the MLS assist leader heading in to this weekend, while Morales is the MLS goal-scoring leader with four goals already on the campaign. Morales’ fast start includes two game-winning goals so ride the hot hand with the Whitecaps favored to win again with the LA Galaxy in town on Saturday.
M: Harry Shipp, Montreal
Salary: $5,200
Montreal’s midfield has been pretty lethal this season with Shipp and Ignacio Piatti looking like they could form one of the best tandems in the entire league. Shipp has two assists and is available at a very reasonable price tag at just $5.2K.
F: Octavio Rivero, Vancouver
Salary: $5,400
Rivero has been held without a single point through the Whitecaps’ first four games of the season but he has fired off 14 shots already and it is only a matter of time before he breaks through. There is a good chance that happens this weekend with Vancouver back in front of their home fans in a key matchup against the Galaxy.
F: Maximiliano Urruti, FC Dallas
Salary: $5,300
Urruti has been a force early on for FC Dallas with three goals through four games and he is still available at a very reasonable price at $5.3K. He is bound to slow down eventually but it likely won’t be this weekend as Dallas looks to stay hot against the Crew.
FLEX: Kekuta Manneh, Vancouver
Salary: $4,800
The Galaxy won’t roll over on the road against Vancouver and while we were wary of having too many attacking players from the Whitecaps it was just too hard to ignore Manneh for one of our FLEX spots. The 21-year-old is still looking for his first goal of the season but he has seven shots through four games and is a strong value option at just $4.8K.
FLEX: Hassoun Camara, Montreal
Salary: $2,500
Our final FLEX play belongs to a player we know we can count on this week in Camara, who is available at just $2.5K. Camara will likely play the full 90 minutes for the Impact and could also receive a clean sheet bonus if Montreal manages to close the door on Seattle.
