Monday Night Raw Recap: Picking Teams

Last night at Hell in a Cell, every champion retained their titles except for Sasha Banks. After a historic Pay-Per-View, Monday Night Raw looks towards Survivor Series, where they will go head-to-head with SmackDown Live.

Opening Segment
To kick off Monday Night Raw, Goldberg comes down to the ring to address Brock Lesnar. Once Goldberg gets started, he gets interrupted by Paul Heyman. Heyman says that Lesnar doesn’t want to wait for Survivor Series, and he wants to go face-to-face with Goldberg tonight. However, Lesnar never shows up. Just as Goldberg is about to attack Heyman for his stunt, Rusev of all people makes his way down to the ring.

Rusev says that Goldberg doesn’t have the strength, heart, or explosiveness that he used to. Since he thinks that Goldberg is weak, he strikes the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Goldberg immediately retaliates, hitting Rusev with a Jackhammer. Then just for fun, he hits Paul Heyman with a spear.

Enzo Amore (w/Big Cass) vs. Luke Gallows (w/Karl Anderson) – Trick-or-Street Fight
Last night, Gallows and Anderson defeated Enzo Amore and Big Cass in tag team action after Amore talked a little too much smack in the match. Apparently this feud isn’t over, and in the spirit of Halloween, we’re having a holiday themed street fight. Also, Big Cass is dressed as Woody and Enzo Amore is dressed as Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story.

Big Cass sloppily puts a pumpkin on Gallows’s head, then Enzo hits a DDT to pick up the victory. Winner: Enzo Amore

Brian Kendrick (c) vs. TJ Perkins – WWE Cruiserweight Championship
Brian Kendrick won the Cruiserweight Championship last night from his former protege, but he wasn’t above using underhanded tactics. Brian Kendrick faked an injury to sucker Perkins into the Captain’s Hook submission, using his smarts to pick up the title. Perkins cashes in rematch clause just a day later in hopes to regain the title.

Both men are outside of the ring, and TJ Perkins enters the ring to beat the count, but Kendrick stays outside of the ring. He knows that although he gets a loss, he keeps the title. After the count-out win, Perkins locks in the kneebar on Kendrick and forces him to tap outside of the ring. Winner (via count-out): TJ Perkins

In-ring Segment
Mick Foley makes his way down to the ring to address the WWE Universal Championship match last night, but he is interrupted by Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho. Last night, Chris Jericho managed to get inside of the Cell and help Kevin Owens defeat Seth Rollins to retain the championship.

While Foley doesn’t like Jericho’s antics last night, he knows that both Jericho and Owens would make great additions for Team Raw at Survivor Series. Foley also has another man in mind for Team Raw: The United States Champion, Roman Reigns.

Jericho starts talking trash to Reigns and says if he wanted to, he could beat Reigns for the United States Championship tonight. Mick Foley likes the sound of that and makes the match official for later tonight.

Battle Royal – Winner Joins Team Raw
Since Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho, and Roman Reigns have already been confirmed for Team Raw, Mick Foley needs two more men to join them. In order to decide the fourth spot, Foley decided to put together a battle royal where the winner joins the team.

Elimination Order: R-Truth, Bo Dallas, Jinder Mahal, Darren Young, Curtis Axel, Titus O’Neil, Goldust, Sheamus, Cesaro, Neville, Sami Zayn

Sami Zayn almost eliminates Strowman, but the “mountain of a man” uses his strength to regain balance and to toss Zayn off of the apron. With that elimination, Strowman joins Team Raw. Winner: Braun Strowman

Rich Swann, Lince Dorado, & Cedric Alexander vs. Drew Gulak, Tony Nese, & Ariya Daivari
This is almost the same match we saw on the Hell in a Cell Kickoff Show last night, but Sin Cara was in the match instead of Rich Swann. Dorado, Alexander, and Sin Cara would end up picking up the victory after some great high-octane action to start the night.

Dorado and Alexander take out Gulak and Daivari outside the ring, which leads to Swann hitting a vicious kick on Tony Nese. After a jackknife cover, Swann picks up the win for his team. This is Swann’s second consecutive week with a victory after he pinned Brian Kendrick last week. Winners: Rich Swann, Lince Dorado, & Cedric Alexander

In-ring Segment
One night after defeating Sasha Banks inside Hell in a Cell, Charlotte gets down to business as team captain of Raw’s female Survivor Series team. She calls out Bayley for being a “weak link” of the team, and has a match set up in preparation. Bayley will take on the third confirmed member of their team, Nia Jax.

Bayley vs. Nia Jax
Bayley and Nia Jax battled for the NXT Women’s Championship, but this is the first time that these two women face each other on the main roster.

Bayley put up a hard fight, but Jax wasn’t phased. After a Samoan Drop to Bayley, Nia Jax gets the pinfall and remains undefeated on the main roster. Winner: Nia Jax

Sheamus & Cesaro vs. The Shining Stars
Sheamus and Cesaro competed in the battle royal earlier tonight, and Cesaro would end up eliminating the Celtic Warrior. A win for either team tonight could put them in the picture for Survivor Series.

Sheamus locks in the Cloverleaf on Epico, and Cesaro blocks Primo from breaking it up by hitting him mid-air with a European uppercut. With Primo out of the picture, Epico has no choice but to tap out. Winners (via submission): Sheamus & Cesaro

Roman Reigns (c) vs. Chris Jericho (w/Kevin Owens) – United States Championship
The United States Championship is the only title that Y2J hasn’t held in his WWE career. He has held the WWE World Championships, the Intercontinental Championship, and the Tag Team Championships. If Jericho wins the belt tonight, he wants to change it to the Canadian Championship.

Reigns hits a spear on Jericho, and as soon as he goes for the cover, Owens attacks Reigns. Winner (via disqualification): Roman Reigns

The assault continues after the match, and Seth Rollins rushes the ring to attack Owens and Jericho, sending them to the back.
