Jeff Gordon is a slight favorite to win the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 on Sunday that can be seen on FOX. Gordon is listed with odds of 5.5-1 while Kevin Harvick and Jimmie Johnson are listed at 6-1. Let’s take a look at Sunday’s race and NASCAR picks.
Top Contenders
Jeff Gordon is the favorite to win Sunday’s race at odds of 5.5-1 with Kevin Harvick and Jimmie Johnson next at 6-1. Brad Keselowski and Matt Kenseth are each listed at 7-1 while last week’s Daytona 500 winner Joey Logano and Carl Edwards are each 8-1. You also have to put Denny Hamlin and Dale Earnhardt Jr. in as contenders as each are listed at 10-1 and also in the mix are last year’s winner of this race, Kasey Kahne who is listed at 13-1 and Kyle Larson who is listed at 14-1. All of the other drivers are listed at NASCAR odds of 25-1 or more.
Jeff Gordon won the pole last week at Daytona but crashed on the last lap and finished poorly. He may bounce back this week in Atlanta where he made his Cup debut in 1992. Gordon leads all active drivers with five wins at Atlanta Motor Speedway. He last won at the track in 2011.
Live Longshots
Ryan Newman has been very good in terms of winning the pole in this race as he has started on the pole seven times so he has some value at odds of 33-1. Clint Bowyer could also be a factor in this race and he is listed at 30-1.
Race Notes
This race really starts the real season in NASCAR because as exciting as Daytona was, it was a restrictor plate race and basically just a crapshoot. Logano won last week and he could carry over that success to Atlanta based on how well he did on 1.5 mile tracks last season. Logano’s teammate, Brad Keselowski could be the winner on Sunday as Penske has done really well on 1.5 mile tracks. No driver has won back-to-back races to start a NASCAR season since 2009 and it has only happened five times in history so Logano does have his work cut out for him.
Weather is a concern for this race on Sunday as rain is possible and temperatures will likely be in the 40’s.
NASCAR Picks
I will take Jeff Gordon as my top choice at NASCAR betting odds of 5.5-1 and take Brad Keselowski at odds of 7-1. For my longshot I will go with Ryan Newman at odds of 33-1.
