Chase Drivers
Whoever finishes the highest in Sunday’s race between Harvick, Logano, Hamlin and Newman will win the title. All four of the drivers had have issues with each other over the years so it could get interesting on Sunday. “There is no statute of limitations on anything. A driver never forgets,” Newman said.
Race Notes
Denny Hamlin won this race two years ago and he also won it in 2009 so he might be worth a look at odds of 10-1. Jeff Gordon won the race two years ago while Tony Stewart won it in 2011. Stewart and Biffle have the most wins all-time at Homestead with three wins each. Hamlin and Edwards have two wins each. Starting up front hasn’t helped much in this race as the pole sitter has only won twice and not since 2002.
Handicapping
There have been 10 races on 1.5 mile tracks this season. Harvick has been the most consistent with a win and second place finishes three other times. He has led the most laps at 1.5 mile tracks this season. Logano won at Texas and Kansas and he has more value in terms of NASCAR odds at 7-1. Hamlin has won twice in the past at Homestead but he hasn’t run that well on 1.5 mile tracks this season.
Newman doesn’t have a win at all this season but he has been solid on the 1.5 mile tracks. It would serve NASCAR right if Newman won the title as it would prove this new Chase system is ridiculous. Looking beyond the Chase drivers there are some good choices as Keselowski, Johnson and Gordon have been solid on 1.5 mile tracks.
NASCAR Picks
Harvick is the obvious choice but it could be that none of the four Chase drivers win this race. Jimmie Johnson has some value at odds of 5-1 and a live longshot could be Kasey Kahne at odds of 25-1.
