The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series speeds in to New Hampshire Motor Speedway this weekend for the Overton’s 301. Martin Truex Jr. has gained a significant edge in the overall point standings heading in to this week’s race. It won’t be a surprise if he builds on that lead this weekend. Here is a look at this week’s NASCAR top-five power rankings according to the updated sports betting odds to win the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.
1. Martin Truex Jr.
Last Week: 1
Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Odds: +500
If the playoffs were to start now, Truex would own a 15-point lead over the rest of the pack. That lead would grow even bigger if he continues to outpace Kyle Larson in the coming races. There is a good chance that happens this weekend with Larson just 34 points up on Truex heading in to this week’s race. Truex finally broke through at NHMS in the two races there last year. It won’t be a surprise if he built on that momentum and delivered a strong performance in this week’s Overton’s 301.
2. Jimmie Johnson
Last Week: 2
Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Odds: +550
Johnson was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time in last week’s race. He should have better luck this week at New Hampshire. Johnson has fallen behind in the point standings over the past couple of weeks but the sportsbooks still have him as the most likely option to beat out Truex for this year’s Cup championship. Look for Johnson to bounce back this week and get his season back on track.
Johnson enters the weekend in ninth place in the standings. It goes to show the contrast as he’s ninth there but second according to the odds makers. Obviously, he’s done this before and has earned plenty of respect. If he’s in the chase, he’s going to be among the favorites to win it.
3. Kyle Larson
Last Week: 3
Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Odds: +600
The ongoing battle between Truex and Larson at the top of the point standings has created a renewed enthusiasm in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. Both drivers have been outstanding this season and it’s clear that Larson will need to keep it up to stay ahead of Truex. Larson is just one point up on Truex heading in to this weekend’s race so he will need to pick up the pace to maintain his lead.
4. Kevin Harvick
Last Week: 4
Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Odds: +650
Harvick delivered another top-10 finish last week and while he hasn’t been winning races his consistency has been impressive. Harvick has scored the fourth-most stage points of any driver this season and he is fourth in the point standings heading in to the Overton’s 301. Harvick has narrowed the point gap behind Kyle Busch to just 10. He might have the best shot of any driver to catch Larson and Truex if he can start to find his way in to the win column.
Harvick is currently in fourth place in the Monster Energy Cup standings with 599 points. That puts him 110 behind Truex Jr. for the lead. Harvick has one win and 11 Top 10’s on the season in 18 starts.
5. Brad Keselowski
Last Week: 5
Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Odds: +700
Keselowski is coming off back-to-back finishes outside of the top-30. That said, he still has a pair of wins and 11 top-10 finishes overall this season. Keselowski ranks fourth in the point standings and he should have a goo shot at getting back on track this week. Keselowski has excelled at New Hampshire Motor Speedway over the years. Look for him to bounce back in a big way this week and contend for the outright win in the Overton’s 301.
Keselowski enters the weekend in eighth place in the NASCAR standings.
