NBA Fantasy: Waiver Wire Pickups

While the superstar players will lead the way for NBA fantasy teams the waiver wire can be an underrated source of help in key areas, especially if you focus on specialists that can help provide a substantial boost in a particular category. We took a look at a handful of specialists that could still be available in your fantasy basketball league for help in a specific area. Here is a look at the best NBA fantasy waiver wire options for this week.

SG/SF: Dion Waiters, Miami Heat

Waiters is an intriguing option since he should get more minutes this week with Josh Richardson out for Miami. Waiters hasn’t exactly lit it up since his return from a groin injury but he scored 13 points with six assists in the Heat’s loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday and he could be an underrated source for points moving forward. Waiters needs to do a better job when it comes to shooting the ball as he is just 36.7% from the field this season. Waivers has averaged 13.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 18 games as a starter and if his shooting numbers can improve he could be an underrated option for points in NBA fantasy this week.

SG: Jodie Meeks, Orlando Magic

Evan Fournier’s absence should lead to more opportunity for Meeks as the Magic’s starting shooting guard. The veteran scorer has averaged 12.4 points including 2.4 three-point shots per game in seven starts and he could remain an underrated option in terms of three-point shooting. Meeks has hit a ridiculous 43.6% of his three-point shots as a starter and Orlando will likely lean on him more this week in a bigger role.

SG: Malcolm Delaney, Atlanta Hawks

Delaney is an option for assist help in deep leagues this week as he is in the middle of the best stretch of his career in which he has averaged 9.8 points, 2.4 blocks and a ridiculous 5.0 assists per game despite limited minutes. Delaney doesn’t have the most impressive NBA resume but he is heating up for Atlanta so they should continue to give him good minutes. If he can even maintain his recent run with 5.0 assists per game he will be an underrated waiver wire option for this week if you need help in that category.

SG/SF: Joe Ingles, Utah Jazz

Rodney Hood is dealing with a bone bruise so it could mean more minutes for Ingles, who could be another underrated option if you need help with three-point shooting numbers. Ingles has averaged 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 three-point shots while starting Utah’s last three games and he should continue to play big minutes with Hood sidelined. Ingles outlook is still limited to the next couple of games with Hood out but he could be a solid option for help in the three-point category this week.

The Jazz are hot right now as they’ve won three straight and seven of their last 10. They are currently the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference, just two games out of fourth.

PF/C: Clint Capela, Houston Rockets

Capela could still be on the waiver wire in your league following a stint on the IR but he is expected to return on Tuesday or Wednesday this week. That means if he is still available it would make sense to grab him as an underrated source of blocks and field goal percentage this week. Capela has averaged 11.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.6 blocks while shooting 64.0% from the field this season so if he is still available in your NBA fantasy league, you might want to grab him before somebody else does.

The Rockets continue to be a force to be reckoned with. They are now in third place in the Western Conference standings, just a half-game behind the Spurs and just four games behind the Golden State Warriors. It’s hard to believe how far this team has come in Mike D’Antoni’s first season as head coach. This team was nothing short of a train wreck last year under Kevin McHale, failing to even make the playoffs. They were a chemistry disaster but now are one of the tightest-knit teams in the league.
