NBA games will not take place on Election Day

In an effort to concentrate on enticing fans to vote, the NBA will not schedule any games on November 8 (Election Day for the 2022 midterm elections). The NBA family’s commitment on fostering nonpartisan civic involvement and inspiring fans to make a plan to vote during midterm elections, the league stated in a tweet, led to the scheduling choice.

In order to assist fans in making plans to vote, the NBA has announced that clubs would publish information on their state’s voting procedures and voter registration deadlines throughout the coming months. Additionally, the 30 clubs in the league will play games on the Monday before election day to encourage supporters and personnel to cast ballots this year.

“It’s peculiar. Normally, we don’t alter the schedule to accommodate an outside event” James Cadogan, the National Basketball Social Justice Coalition’s Executive Director, remarked. “Election Day and voting are undoubtedly special and crucial to our democracy.”
