Recently, Giannis Antetokounmpo said he would not talk about free agency anymore this year. Still, the world has other ideas. Now, he’s talking about free agency and trying to defend a quote he may or may not have said.
Let’s get started trying to untangle this for you, shall we? Take a look at this tweet before we examine what got this frenzy started.
Giannis refuted the quote attributed to him in the Harvard Business School case study. Said his girlfriend asked him yesterday if he really said that. “If you kind of read the last quote, I’ve never used those words in my life,” he responded.

First off, let’s take a look at the turn of events based around what the Greek Freak may or may not have said. Notably, here’s what he was believed to say:
“I want the Bucks to build a winning culture,” Antetokounmpo is quoted as saying. “So far, we have been doing great, and, if this lasts, there’s no other place I want to be. But if we’re underperforming in the NBA next year, deciding whether to sign becomes a lot more difficult.”
Of course, all of this is surrounding his impending free agency; which will be one of the biggest of it’s type since Lebron James left Cleveland (twice). Of course, Antetokounmpo attracts even the average fan to the game due to his unique style of play. Equally important, he’s coming off an MVP season in 2018-2019; a signal that he’s at the top of his game.
Now, here’s what Antetokounmpo said in response to the alleged quote; according to Matt Velasquez who is a Milwaukee Bucks beat reporter.
Giannis said his girlfriend asked him yesterday if he really said that. “If you kind of read the last quote, I’ve never used those words in my life,” he responded.
Obviously, I am just a guy who has a little anxiety over Antetokounmpo leaving Milwaukee. I would definitely like to see him stay in the small market and turn it into a basketball paradise with his own band of sidekicks, rather than the same old join a city and create a super team routine.
Hopefully, they are able to get it done. Until then, stories like this will continue. And where there is smoke, usually a little fire can follow.
