Jamal Crawford is still a free agent after his contract with the Phoenix Suns expired this summer, and he’s looking for a new team. The three-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year is seeking his first NBA title, and according to former All-Star point guard Gilbert Arenas, the Los Angeles Lakers should add him to the roster for the upcoming campaign.
Arenas still strongly thinks that Crawford can play at an elite level despite his age of 39. Gilbert’s opinion is that the Lakers could benefit from Crawford’s experience and his excellent shooting from beyond the arc.
“I hope he goes to a team like the Lakers,” Arenas said. “They need your outside shooting.” Arenas continued. “They also need your creativity to provide more baskets, and they need another guard. I feel Jamal Crawford in that type of situation would be great for both sides.”
Crawford is coming off a season with the Phoenix Suns where he did offer some value averaging 7.9 points, 1.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 0.5 steals in 18.9 minutes per contest. He spent five seasons with the Clippers and joining LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and co could be Crawford’s last chance to win an NBA championship.

The Lakers are a championship contender for the upcoming campaign after they brought Anthony Davis in a trade deal with the New Orleans Pelicans. However, they sent Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, and Josh Hart the other way, and now they need more quality players at the guard position. Adding Crawford is an interesting idea for Frank Vogel’s side, as he may be the perfect player to come off the bench and make an impact on the championship race.
The Lakers have enough time to make their move before the season starts, but it’s maybe going to be a problem as they already announced a move for veteran center Dwight Howard. That means that the Lakers would have to cut a player before adding Crawford.
