The Los Angeles Clippers have one final roster spot to fill to complete their 15-man NBA roster and are looking at free agents as training camp starts next month. After bringing in the 2019 NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and former Oklahoma City Thunder forward Paul George, the Clippers are the biggest favorites to win the NBA title next season.
According to Amico Hoops’ Ben Stinar, the Clippers are looking to add a shooting guard to the roster in the coming days, and veteran free agent Jodie Meeks is one of the options. Meeks is without a team after spending the second part of the last season with the Toronto Raptors, winning his first NBA championship in the process.
The 32-year-old could be tempted to take a veterans’ minimum deal and rejoin his former teammate Leonard in Los Angeles. Defensively, the Clippers are undoubtedly one of the best teams in the league, but they are short of sharpshooters, and Meeks can provide them cover with his solid shooting from beyond the arc.
The former Lakers and Pistons guard is known for his three-point shooting, and he can be a useful option off the bench. Meeks is a career 37.3 percent shooter from downtown and considering the Clippers were at the bottom of the NBA when it came to three-pointers made and attempts last year, this move should be good for both parties.
However, Stinar reports that the Clippers are not the only side interested in the veteran, with the Charlotte Hornets and Milwaukee Bucks also in the mix to sign the shooting guard. This makes the things a bit harder for the Clippers as Meeks already won the NBA title last season, and could opt to join the team that offers him the best financial terms.
