According to sources close to ESPN’s The Undefeated, former NBA All-Star and reigning BIG3 MVP Joe Johnson will be working out with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Johnson impressed in this summer’s BIG3 league, and his displays attracted attention from several NBA teams, not only Philadelphia. Namely, Johnson also is receiving interest for potential workouts from the Milwaukee Bucks, New Orleans Pelicans, Denver Nuggets, and Los Angeles Clippers.

Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Sixers will also work out with center Spencer Hawes, who played 10 years in the NBA and represented the Los Angeles Lakers’ G-League team last season. The 76ers have 14 guaranteed contracts while another roster spot belongs to guard Trey Burke right now. If he’s not waived by Oct. 23, Burke’s contract will increase from $405,000 to $810,000.
Johnson is a seven-time NBA All-Star and averaged 16.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game from 2001 to 2018, representing seven teams. Most recently, Johnson played for the Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets in the 2017-18 season. His best years were with the Atlanta Hawks, averaging more than 20 points per game and being named an All-Star for six consecutive seasons.
Johnson was named MVP of the 2019 BIG3 after a fantastic season in which he showed that he still has a lot to offer and that he can play in the NBA. Joe led the league in points (175), assists (31), 4-point shots made (four), and total field goals (63) while he finished second in three-pointers made (16).
