The NBA announced it hired Kate Jhaveri as its next chief marketing officer, and she will replace Pam El, who retired at the end of last season. Jhaveri worked for Facebook and Twitter previously in her career and was also Twitch’s CMO.
Kate will start with her new duties on August 15 and will report to Mark Tatum, the NBA’s Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer. Jhaveri’s duties will also include overseeing global marketing for the NBA, the NBA’s new esports league, NBA 2K League, and the NBA G League.
Jhaveri took Twitter to thank the NBA for the chance, said that it is the opportunity of her life, and expressed her excitement to be working with the league, teams, players and the fans. She also thanked Twitch for the collaboration, partnership, and fun they had together in the last few years.
I’m thrilled to join the @NBA as CMO. It’s an opportunity I could only dream of – working with the league, teams, players and the most amazing community of fans. I can’t wait to get started. Let’s goooooo!
