Taj Gibson came to the New York Knicks this summer after spending the previous two years with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Knicks failed to get a superstar in free agency as Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, who were the top Knicks targets, moved to the Brooklyn Nets. Brooklyn was faster than New York and got a pair of stars in the early days of free agency, so the Knicks were left empty-handed.
While the Nets are likely going to be contenders in the Eastern Conference next season, especially when Durant recovers from a ruptured Achilles, the Knicks are not even expected to make the playoffs. New York was always the Knicks town, but now it seems that the Nets are taking over. However, Gibson doesn’t think so.
“It’s always going to be a Knicks town. That’s all we grew up on,” Gibson told the Daily News. “What the Nets are doing is great, don’t get me wrong. That’s amazing. But I grew up a Knicks fan. I grew up watching John Starks. Times have changed. But New York is always — you see behind you, they have Knicks hats on.”

The Knicks fans are becoming tired of the team because they are failing to make big moves, and so it’s hard to agree with Gibson. It wouldn’t be surprising to see a lot of fans turning their focus on the Nets, who are set to become a real threat in the Eastern Conference.
Gibson will try to do anything he can to improve the young Knicks squad after signing a two-year, $20 million deal this summer.
